transPARENTSy podcast was birthed because we experienced a gap in representation of queer black #motherhood and #parenting in the communities available to us. We needed an #inclusive space that allowed us to learn, unlearn, and vent about topics relevant to our intersectionality without experiencing racism, homophobia, and microagressions. As facilitators of the groups Black #LGBTQ Moms of Facebook and Instagram we saw a need for information, a need for resources, and a desire for healing and community. We hope to build and expand that here.

    Raising kids during the era of #BlackLivesMatter and why you need to talk to your kids about race

    In our inaugural episode, Big Momma Mia and Ronnie B discuss becoming parents, and parenting, during the age of #BlackLivesMatter and civil unrest. They highlight the disadvantage Black children are at as a result of the amount of time their parents have to dedicate to teaching them survival skills and not life skills. We answer the questions: Do your kids know their race - and when did they learn it? How should parents be addressing the topic of race? Should we - and how do we talk about police brutality, racism and hate crimes at age appropriate levels? How can we create space for our kids to navigate their own emotional journeys as it relates to race, racism and loss?
