The Truth About Thyroid, Adrenals, and Hormonal Imbalance

Feeling tired, wired, foggy, puffy, anxious, or just not like yourself in midlife? Your thyroid, adrenals, and hormones may all be part of the bigger picture. In this Tea & Truth episode, we're putting the pieces together and talking about how thyroid function, cortisol, stress, blood sugar, sleep, and menopause hormone changes can overlap — and why your symptoms deserve a deeper conversation, not dismissal. So many women in midlife are told their labs look "normal," yet they still feel exhausted, foggy, anxious, inflamed, stuck with weight changes, or completely unlike themselves. In this episode of Tea & Truth: Honest Talk for Women in Midlife, we're talking about the truth about thyroid, adrenals, and hormonal imbalance — and why these systems are so deeply connected. Your thyroid influences energy, metabolism, temperature, digestion, mood, and more. Your adrenal glands help regulate your stress response through hormones such as cortisol. And during perimenopause and menopause, shifting estrogen and progesterone can make stress, sleep disruption, blood sugar swings, and fatigue feel even more intense. This episode is a practical, honest, and encouraging look at the midlife hormone puzzle — without fear, extremes, or overwhelm. In this episode, we talk about: Why thyroid symptoms and menopause symptoms can overlap How chronic stress can affect energy, sleep, cravings, and resilience Why cortisol is not "bad," but your rhythm matters The connection between blood sugar, cravings, fatigue, and mood Why midlife symptoms often have more than one root contributor What questions to ask your provider if you feel dismissed Gentle lifestyle supports for thyroid, adrenal, and hormone balance Why your symptoms are information — not something to ignore Free Companion Handout I created a free companion handout for this episode called The Midlife Hormone Clues Checklist: What Your Thyroid, Adrenals & Hormones May Be Trying to Tell You. This gentle checklist will help you begin noticing patterns in your energy, sleep, cravings, mood, stress, digestion, and hormone-related symptoms — without overwhelm or self-diagnosis. You'll also find simple questions to ask your provider and a 7-day body clues tracker so you can start connecting the dots with more clarity and confidence. Bio-Identical Hormones: The Truth Women in Midlife Need to Hear

Are bio-identical hormones safe — and are they right for you? In this Tea & Truth episode, we're having an honest, grounded conversation about bio-identical hormones, hormone therapy, menopause symptoms, and the questions women in midlife deserve to ask before making decisions about their bodies. We'll talk about what "bio-identical" really means, why it doesn't automatically mean safer or risk-free, the difference between FDA-approved and custom-compounded hormone therapy, and why your personal history, symptoms, timing, and risk factors all matter. You'll also hear a little of my own story — including why bio-identical hormones didn't work well for me years ago, and why I still believe every woman deserves an informed, individualized conversation with a qualified provider. Plus, I created a free companion guide for this episode: Hormone Therapy Questions to Ask Your Provider: A Midlife Woman's Conversation Guide, to help you organize your symptoms, clarify your questions, and walk into your appointment feeling more prepared — not pressured. Bio-identical hormones can sound like the perfect "natural" answer to midlife symptoms — especially when you're exhausted, not sleeping, dealing with hot flashes, feeling foggy, anxious, dry, achy, moody, or simply not like yourself. But the truth is, the conversation is more nuanced than that. In this episode of Tea & Truth: Honest Talk for Women in Midlife, we're unpacking what bio-identical hormones really are, what women need to understand about safety, and why "natural" doesn't automatically mean risk-free. This is not an episode about telling every woman to use hormone therapy. And it's not an episode about telling every woman to avoid it. Instead, this is a grounded, empowering conversation to help you better understand your options, ask better questions, and advocate for yourself with more confidence. Current menopause guidance recognizes hormone therapy as an effective treatment for bothersome hot flashes and night sweats, and notes that for many healthy symptomatic women under age 60 or within 10 years of menopause, the benefit-risk ratio may be favorable when treatment is individualized. At the same time, professional organizations urge caution around custom-compounded bio-identical hormone therapy, especially when FDA-approved options are available, because claims of superior safety or effectiveness are not well supported. In this episode, I'm also sharing my personal experience with trying bio-identical hormones years ago — and why they didn't work well for me at that time. But I also share why that experience doesn't mean hormone therapy is wrong for every woman, especially since the conversation around dosing, timing, delivery methods, and individualized care has changed significantly. Because here's the truth: Your body deserves more than fear. Your body deserves more than marketing. Your body deserves thoughtful, informed, personalized care. In this episode, we talk about: ✨ What bio-identical hormones actually are ✨ Why bio-identical does not automatically mean compounded ✨ The difference between FDA-approved and custom-compounded hormone therapy ✨ Why "natural" does not always mean risk-free ✨ Why timing, dose, route, and personal history matter ✨ Why some women may need extra caution with hormone therapy ✨ Questions to ask your healthcare provider before deciding ✨ Why holistic foundations still matter whether you use hormones or not ✨ How to advocate for yourself without fear, pressure, or confusion Listen in to learn: 💜 Why bio-identical hormones are often misunderstood 💜 What safety really depends on when it comes to hormone therapy 💜 Why your symptoms, history, and risk factors all belong in the conversation 💜 What questions to ask if your provider recommends compounded hormones 💜 How to think about hormone therapy as one possible tool — not the whole picture 💜 Why your voice and lived experience matter in midlife healthcare Free Companion Guide To go along with this episode, I created a free PDF guide called: Hormone Therapy Questions to Ask Your Provider: A Midlife Woman's Conversation Guide This guide is designed to help you gather your thoughts before an appointment, organize your symptoms, and ask practical questions about hormone therapy, bio-identical hormones, compounded options, testing, lifestyle foundations, and next steps. Download the guide here Important Reminder This episode is for education and encouragement only. It is not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Hormone therapy decisions should always be reviewed with a qualified healthcare provider who understands your personal health history, symptoms, medications, risk factors, and goals. Your Doctor Is Wrong About Perimenopause — Here's the Truth

Have you been told your labs are "normal" even though you feel exhausted, anxious, foggy, sleepless, or completely unlike yourself? In this Tea & Truth episode, Lynne Wadsworth, Board-Certified Holistic Health Practitioner, shares why perimenopause symptoms can be real even when standard bloodwork looks fine — and how to begin advocating for yourself with more confidence, clarity, and calm. Have you ever walked out of a doctor's office feeling more confused than when you walked in? Maybe you explained the exhaustion, the anxiety, the sleepless nights, the weight changes, the brain fog, the mood swings, or the feeling that you just don't feel like yourself anymore — only to be told, "Everything looks normal." If that has happened to you, this episode is for you. In today's Tea & Truth conversation, we're talking about one of the most frustrating experiences for women in midlife: having very real symptoms while being told that nothing is technically wrong. This episode is not about blaming doctors. Many practitioners are caring, skilled, and doing their best. But it is about recognizing that many women in perimenopause and menopause are still not being fully heard, especially when standard lab results don't reflect how they actually feel day to day. Perimenopause can be a time of significant hormonal fluctuation, and symptoms can show up long before a woman is officially in menopause. Standard hormone testing may not always capture the full picture because hormone levels can shift throughout the cycle and from day to day. That's why your symptoms, menstrual changes, sleep, mood, energy, stress levels, and lived experience all matter. In this episode, we'll talk about why "normal" labs don't always mean optimal wellness, what may be happening hormonally during perimenopause, why cortisol and stress can intensify symptoms, and how to prepare for a more productive conversation with your healthcare provider. You'll also learn simple, practical steps you can begin taking now to support your body naturally — including symptom tracking, blood sugar support, sleep rhythms, nervous system care, and gentle liver and digestive support. Most of all, this episode is a reminder that your symptoms are real, your body is communicating, and you deserve care that looks at the whole picture. In This Episode, We Talk About Why so many women feel dismissed in perimenopause and menopause Why "normal" labs don't always tell the whole story How hormone fluctuations can affect sleep, mood, energy, weight, and clarity Why symptoms and cycle changes matter What questions to ask your doctor How stress and cortisol can affect midlife hormone balance Simple ways to support blood sugar, sleep, digestion, and the nervous system Why self-advocacy is an important part of midlife wellness Gentle Medical Disclaimer for Show Notes This episode is for education and support only and is not intended to diagnose, treat, or replace personalized medical care. The Hidden Root Causes Many Women Are Never Tested For With Dr. Pamela Cipriano

Have you been told your labs are "normal" while you still feel exhausted, foggy, anxious, inflamed, or not quite like yourself? In this powerful episode, I'm joined by Dr. Pamela Cipriano, a doctorally prepared nurse practitioner specializing in functional medicine, chronic illness, tick-borne disease, mold toxicity, heavy metals, and complex root-cause health concerns. We're talking about why symptoms often blamed on perimenopause or stress may sometimes have deeper contributors — including Lyme disease, mold exposure, heavy metal toxicity, chronic inflammation, and nervous system disruption. If you've felt dismissed, confused, or stuck in the cycle of being told "everything looks fine," this conversation may help you ask better questions, understand what conventional testing can miss, and take a more informed next step. So many women in midlife are told their symptoms are "just hormones," "just stress," or "just part of getting older." But what happens when fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, mood changes, sleep struggles, inflammation, or chronic illness symptoms are pointing to something deeper? In this episode of Living Life Naturally, I'm joined by Dr. Pamela Cipriano, a doctorally prepared nurse practitioner and founder of The Practice of Health and Wellness in Connecticut. Dr. Cipriano specializes in functional medicine, chronic illness, tick-borne disease, mold toxicity, heavy metal toxicity, and advanced root-cause testing. This conversation is especially important for women who have spent years feeling unwell but have been told their standard labs look normal. Dr. Cipriano explains how hidden infections, environmental toxins, mold exposure, heavy metals, and chronic inflammation can affect the body, brain, immune system, hormones, mood, and nervous system. We also talk about why these symptoms can overlap with perimenopause and menopause — and why it's so important not to assume everything is hormonal without looking deeper. In this episode, we talk about: Why standard labs may miss deeper root causes How Lyme disease, mold exposure, and heavy metals can overlap Why fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, sleep issues, and mood changes may not always be "just menopause" How environmental toxins and infections can keep the immune system activated The connection between inflammation, nervous system stress, and chronic illness How Lyme, mold, and heavy metals may affect the brain and mood Early warning signs that something deeper may be contributing to symptoms What to do first if you suspect Lyme, mold, or toxicity may be part of your story This episode is not meant to create fear — it's meant to bring hope, validation, and a deeper understanding of what may be going on beneath the surface. Because when you finally understand what your body has been trying to tell you, you can begin asking the right questions and seeking the right kind of support. How to Spot the Hidden Mineral Imbalances Behind Midlife Fatigue With Dori Martin

Have you been dealing with perimenopause symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, poor sleep, weight changes, or that frustrating feeling that your body just isn't working the way it used to? In this episode of Living Life Naturally, I'm joined by Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner and certified Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis practitioner Dori Martin to talk about how to spot the hidden mineral imbalances behind midlife fatigue — and why your labs may look "normal" even when your body still doesn't feel right. Have you been dealing with perimenopause symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, poor sleep, weight changes, or that frustrating feeling that your body just isn't working the way it used to? You've done the bloodwork. You've tried to eat better. You've worked on your sleep. Maybe you've even explored hormone support. And yet… you still feel exhausted, anxious, foggy, wired, depleted, or like your body is somehow working against you. In this episode of Living Life Naturally, I'm joined by Dori Martin, a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner, certified Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis practitioner, and Midlife Hormone Mastery coach, to talk about a test many women have never been offered: Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis, also known as HTMA. Dori has worked with over 5,000 midlife women, and her message is both practical and deeply validating: when women are told their symptoms are "just stress," "just aging," or "just hormones," there may be deeper mineral, metabolic, and nervous system patterns driving how they feel. And this is where the conversation gets so important. Because midlife isn't only about estrogen, progesterone, or hot flashes. It's also about how well your body is creating energy at the cellular level, how your nervous system is responding to years of stress, and whether your mineral patterns are supporting or depleting your body's ability to function well. Dori shares her own powerful story of experiencing a complete body shutdown while caregiving for a parent at end-of-life and navigating her husband's terminal diagnosis as a single mom. Even though she was doing many of the "right" things, she knew something deeper was going on — especially when brain fog, exhaustion, and depletion became impossible to ignore. In our conversation, we talk about why traditional bloodwork can be helpful but incomplete, how HTMA can offer a longer-term picture of mineral balance and heavy metal exposure, and why minerals are like the "spark plugs" of the body. We also discuss the connection between chronic stress, burnout, sodium and potassium depletion, calcium and magnesium patterns, blood sugar, metabolism, mood, and hormone balance. This episode is especially for the woman who has been dismissed, brushed aside, or told everything looks fine when she knows deep down that something still feels off. You'll walk away with a better understanding of why your symptoms may not be random, why your body may be asking for deeper support, and why there truly is no one-size-fits-all approach to midlife wellness. In This Episode, We Talk About Why so many midlife women are told their symptoms are "normal" even when they feel anything but normal. What Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis is and how it may offer insight into cellular function, mineral balance, stress patterns, and heavy metal exposure. Why minerals are like the spark plugs of the body. How chronic stress and nervous system activation can contribute to depletion and burnout. Why sodium and potassium are often low in burnout patterns. Why more calcium isn't always the answer in midlife. How mineral patterns may connect with mood, metabolism, energy, hormones, and weight-loss resistance. Why bloodwork can be helpful but may not tell the whole story. How functional medicine looks at optimization and vitality rather than simply managing sickness. Why midlife women need individualized support instead of one-size-fits-all solutions. About Dori Martin Dori Martin knows firsthand what true burnout and midlife mayhem feel like. At the busiest time of her life, she was a single mom, caregiving for a parent through end-of-life, and then navigating a terminal diagnosis with her husband — and that's when her own body began to shut down. Through her personal and professional journey, Dori discovered that what many women are told is "just stress," "just aging," or "just hormones" is often something deeper. As a Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner, certified Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis practitioner, and Midlife Hormone Mastery coach, Dori has guided over 5,000 women through workshops, group programs, and one-on-one coaching to support energy, stabilize blood sugar, improve metabolism, and move out of patterns of burnout and weight-loss resistance. Her message is simple and powerful: there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Every body has a unique blueprint — and when you understand the cellular, mineral, and nervous system patterns driving your symptoms, everything finally starts to make sense. Resources from Dori Martin One of the reasons so many midlife women experience extreme burnout is chronic stress and nervous system activation that keeps the body stuck in fight, flight, or freeze. Dori offers a free 5-Minute Nervous System Tune-Up to help remind the mind and body how to return to a calmer, more regulated state. 7 Ways to Rebuild Strength and Energy After Menopause With Heike Yates

If the workouts and routines that used to work for you now leave you feeling tired, discouraged, or stuck, you are not alone. In this episode, midlife fitness expert Heike Yates shares 7 realistic ways women can rebuild strength and energy after menopause without guilt, extremes, or feeling like they have to start over. This is an encouraging conversation about listening to your body, adjusting with wisdom, and finding a more supportive path forward in midlife. Many women reach midlife and start to notice that the habits that used to work for their body just do not seem to work the same way anymore. The routines, workouts, and expectations that once felt manageable can suddenly feel draining, frustrating, or completely out of sync with what the body needs. In this episode, I'm joined by Heike Yates, midlife fitness expert, author, and creator of the SPARK Framework, for a thoughtful conversation about what really changes during menopause and how women can rebuild strength and energy in a way that feels more realistic, supportive, and sustainable. Heike shares from both professional and personal experience. With decades in fitness, from teaching classes to bodybuilding, running ultramarathons, and competing in triathlons, she also knows what it feels like when the body begins asking for a different approach. We talk about how hormone changes can affect fatigue, injury risk, confidence, recovery, and motivation — and why midlife often calls for more support, not more self-pressure. A big theme in this conversation is that women do not need to start over. Instead, they can build on what they already know, make small shifts that fit real life, and create momentum in ways that feel kinder and more effective. In this episode, we discuss: How menopause changes the way women respond to exercise and recovery Why pushing harder is not always the answer in midlife How to tell the difference between discipline and the need for more support Small, practical ways to fit movement into everyday life Why joy matters more than willpower when it comes to consistency How to adapt when injuries, arthritis, or limitations change what is possible Why rebuilding in midlife is about moving forward, not starting from scratch About Heike Yates Heike Yates is a midlife fitness expert, author, and creator of the SPARK Framework. She helps midlife women rebuild strength, energy, and confidence without guilt, extremes, or starting over. With more than 35 years of experience in fitness, nutrition, and mindset coaching, her approach is compassionate, practical, and designed for real life. She is also the host of the Pursue Your Spark Podcast and author of Pursue Your Spark.
