I enjoyed listening to the conversation on the podcast for Nov 1, 2025. I have often thought about the American view of WW1, and the lack of emphasis and attention to the conflict. Being from the South, I firmly believe that the American Civil War was the main thought and concern for the South. Despite the passage of decades, the Civil War was still ever present. Even today, there are many examples of the influence it had,and has, on the Southern culture. These examples are not necessarily, and most often, are not a “for or against” any kind of ideology. Just a presence in the culture. Pictures of family members, left over weaponry, field trips, etc. Again, not for or against. It is just there, culture, history. Just like France and Verdon, and all the other many sites of combat.
