Food Forests with Dr. Lynn Doxon

What if your backyard could do more than grow grass?  What if it could grow peaches, berries, herbs and flowers… feed your family, welcome birds and pollinators, and become a peaceful sanctuary all at the same time?  Today we’re stepping into the fascinating world of Food Forests with Dr. Lynn Doxon. Lynn has spent more than 50 years pioneering sustainable horticulture and regenerative food systems, earned her PhD in Horticulture, and has helped more than half a million people better understand how we can work with nature rather than against it.  But her passion began years ago in Honduras, where she witnessed families growing sophisticated, abundant, multi-layered food systems long before “regenerative agriculture” became a popular phrase. When the traditional agricultural world resisted what she was discovering, Lynn eventually made a powerful decision: she stopped waiting for permission.  She began creating her own food forest - and today her grandchildren pick fruit right from her yard. One visitor walked through her garden and described it simply as “a meditation garden.” I love that, because this conversation really isn’t just about gardening. It’s about abundance, beauty, connection, and creating something today that can continue nourishing the people we love tomorrow. Let’s call in Food Forests! Let’s Call IT in With Dar! Losing Weight for the Last Time! With Dr. Heather Awad

Have you ever thought, “I’m eating the same way I always have… so why is my body suddenly responding so differently?”  For many women in midlife and beyond, the old tricks—eating less, counting calories, skipping meals, or trying harder—just don’t seem to work anymore. And when the weight comes back, it’s easy to blame ourselves.  My guest today says there may be a much better way.  Dr. Heather Awad is a family physician and certified coach who experienced this frustration herself. After gaining weight in her mid-40s without significantly changing how she ate, she began digging into what happens to a woman’s body during the menopause transition. By changing how she ate and addressing emotional eating with greater self-compassion, Heather ultimately lost 27 pounds.  Today we’re talking about Losing Weight for the Last Time—without making food the enemy. We’ll explore her simple “menopause plate,” why grazing all day may be working against you, how to handle the person who insists you have just one more piece of dessert, and perhaps most importantly, how to get off that exhausting merry-go-round of perfection, guilt, and starting over on Monday.  Because maybe lasting change isn’t about having more willpower. Maybe it’s about finally understanding the body you’re living in now.  Let’s “Call IT In” ...” Call IT In With Dar!”  Support the show Full Show Notes can be found at CallITInPodcast.com Photo credit: Rebecca Lange Photography  Music credit: Kevin MacLeod Incompetech.com (licensed under Creative Commons)   Production credit: Erin Schenke @ Emerald Support Services LLC. Let’s Talk About Death, Baby! with Melissa Lewis

What if one of the most loving conversations we could have… is also the one most of us would rather avoid? Yes, today we’re talking about death, baby! But don’t go anywhere—because this conversation is really about love, peace, connection, and living more fully right up until our very last breath.  My guest, Melissa Lewis, is a registered nurse, certified hospice and care nurse, teacher, and founder of Heartspace for Healing & Hospice. For more than 30 years, she has supported thousands of individuals and families through some of life’s most tender transitions. But Melissa’s calling began much earlier, when at just 19 she stood frightened and helpless as she watched her grandmother suffer in a hospital. That experience eventually led her to discover a very different way of approaching the end of life—one that brings together modern medicine, ancient wisdom, spiritual connection, and compassionate presence.  Today we’ll talk about what actually happens as someone approaches the end of life, how we can lovingly support them without being overwhelmed by fear, and why getting our own “ducks in a row” may be one of the greatest gifts we ever give the people we love. Because perhaps talking about death doesn’t diminish life at all. Maybe it reminds us just how precious it is.  So… Let’s Talk About Death, Baby! “Let’s Call IT in With Dar”!  Support the show Full Show Notes can be found at CallITInPodcast.com Photo credit: Rebecca Lange Photography  Music credit: Kevin MacLeod Incompetech.com (licensed under Creative Commons)   Production credit: Erin Schenke @ Emerald Support Services LLC. The Countdown Begins - #3 Most Popular Episode

Welcome to a very special month here on Call IT in With Dar.  This August marks seven incredible years since I nervously pressed the record button for my very first podcast episode. I had no idea that one simple "yes" would grow into a community of listeners from across the United States and around the world.  Together, we've laughed, cried, learned, healed, and explored what I like to call heartset, mindset, and soulset living—because when those three come into alignment, life begins to change from the inside out.  To celebrate this anniversary, I'm counting down the three most downloaded episodes of the past year.  Today we're kicking things off with #3, and I think you'll quickly hear why listeners connected with this conversation.  Whether this is your first time hearing it or you're listening again with fresh ears, I hope it encourages and inspires you.  And before we begin, I have a little announcement. Starting in September, Call IT in With Dar will move from weekly episodes to every other week, giving me even more time to bring you meaningful conversations that nourish your heart, your mind, and your soul.  Now...let's begin our anniversary countdown. Calling in number 3 ….call It in with Dar  Plant-Based Medicine with Kayse Gehret Welcome back to the show, friends. Today we’re diving into one of the most fascinating and rapidly growing areas in the healing world — plant-based medicine — and how it’s helping women (and men) reconnect with their bodies, emotions, and purpose in profound ways.  My guest, Kayse Gehret, is one of the most highly regarded and sought-after guides for what she calls “The Medicine of the Moment” — the practice of Microdosing Earth Medicine. Kayse founded Microdosing for Healing in 2020, building on a three-decade career in the healing arts. Since then, her platform, program, and global community have supported more than 1,200 individuals from all walks of life in using microdosing as a tool for emotional healing, creativity, and spiritual connection. She’s also the host of the Microdosing for Healing Podcast and leads the Microdosing Professional Program, a mentorship and mastermind for wellness professionals who want to integrate this sacred practice into their work.  In our conversation, we’ll explore how microdosing differs from traditional plant medicine ceremonies, what’s happening in the brain and body during this subtle practice, and how this movement is changing the landscape of modern healing. So settle in, open your heart, and get ready to explore the gentle — yet powerful — world of microdosing. Winding Up Not Down In Midlife with Dr. Trina Read

Who says midlife is the beginning of the end? What if it's actually the beginning of a new chapter—one filled with deeper connection, greater confidence, and the freedom to rediscover parts of yourself you may have forgotten? Today on Call IT in With Dar, we're talking about a subject that many women think about but few feel comfortable discussing: intimacy after the honeymoon years.  My guest is Dr. Trina Read, an award-winning Canadian sexologist, bestselling author, and educator who has spent more than 25 years helping women in long-term relationships rediscover connection, confidence, and pleasure. Dr. Trina believes that midlife isn't about winding down—it's about winding up in a whole new way.  In today's conversation, we'll explore why intimacy often changes as we age, the importance of feeling emotionally safe and truly desired, and how honest communication can breathe new life into even the longest relationships.  Whether you've been married for decades, are starting over, or simply want to better understand yourself, this episode offers a refreshing, empowering perspective on what it means to flourish in midlife. “Let's Call IT in!”  Support the show Full Show Notes can be found at CallITInPodcast.com Photo credit: Rebecca Lange Photography  Music credit: Kevin MacLeod Incompetech.com (licensed under Creative Commons)   Production credit: Erin Schenke @ Emerald Support Services LLC.
