Halifax Home Prices WENT UP by 5% in October 2026!

Halifax's real estate stats are out for October 2026 and they are a little surprising for everything we're seeing in the real estate market. Home prices INCREASED by 5% from September to October going from $595,691 to $624,740.  The number of homes sale increased slightly, Halifax is now at 1568 homes for sale which is up from 1554 homes for sale in September. The months of inventory went from 4 to 4.3 months in Halifax, that means Halifax is moving more into a balanced market.  360 new listings hit Halifax in October 2026, which is a significant decrease from the 652 new listings in September 2026, and the 578 new listings Halifax had in October 2025.  The average listing in Halifax needed 8 viewings to receive an accepted offer.  The average listing in Halifax had 4 viewings in October 2026.  Days on market is at 47.  Pending sales is 239, down from 407 in September 2026.  All in all, based on what I've been seeing in the real estate market, the jump in price point has caught me by surprise. The inventory is still creeping up slightly, and the alarming thing for sellers should be the amount of homes that went pending in October 2026. There's less buyers engaged with the market and that will eventually make its way to home prices.  The Bank of Canada just raised its interest rates as well, be interesting to see the impact that will have on Halifax's real estate market over the next few months.  Jason Paul  902-220-7357  jason@infinityrealestategroup.ca  @jasonpaulhalifaxrealtor  @halifaxrealestatepodcast

Episode 109: Interest Rates GO UP! W/ Matt Legatto

That's it, for the first time July 2023, the Bank of Canada has decided to raise it's key lending rate by 25 basis points. Citing concerns of key inflation metrics hitting 3.2% as the reason behind this increase. What does this mean for everyone? 1.) If you strip out oil & gas inflation from the metrics, inflation is staying at the 2% target the Bank of Canada has always treaded at. So basically, it's the wars going on in the world that are impacting this decision.  2.) If you are selling your house, buyers purchasing power just decreased, let alone the hit to positive sentiment and goodwill about buying real estate in today's economic uncertainty.  3.) Historically when the Bank of Canada has raised its key interest rate, they raise it a second time just to get ahead of key inflation metrics. The Bank of Canada intends on meeting in December, where they will announce another decision on interest rates. I wonder what they will do!  4.) In the grand scheme of things, 25 basis points is not a huge increase, but a potential second one in December is the one that may hurt a lot of people as this key interest rate impacts a lot of people's day to day loans.
