#3: Are You an Inclusive Leader?

When thinking about leaders, it's important that there is a level of inclusivity that allows all to be successful in their positions in the workplace. This isn't a grand idea that is hard to attain. There are simple behaviors that leaders can exhibit and practice to ensure the people they serve can soar. In this episode, I have Tyrone Void, a campus administrator in the school district I am in, join me in a conversation around leaders and inclusivity. I chose Tyrone for this topic because we are able to have respectful and transparent conversations around sometimes hard-to-navigate content. As you will hear, one leadership topic ALWAYS goes off into another and we weave together different themes all related together or eloquently put, get in some rabbit holes. Either way, I hope you examine yourself in the leadership capacities that you serve and ask yourself, are you being inclusive in your communications, words, implicit and explicit messaging, and behaviors. Enjoy the conversation!  Show Resource Fast Company Article: Employees sound off on what makes a truly inclusive leader

If you're looking for validation that you aren't losing your mind, you might get it in the brain information that I share. If you're looking for multiple ways to be intentional about taking care of yourself in this prolonged collective trauma we are all in, you will find some ways in this episode.  Show Resources American Psychological Association Resources to Mental Health during a Pandemic The Next Right Thing (book) by Emily P. “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.”- Fred Rogers Altruism and being helpful are the pillars of our communities. Being altruistic is not a natural trait for humans and must be intentional action taken daily. This episode examines what altruism and helping others is all about, the benefits (backed by research!) of helping others, and ways you can start helping in your relationships, with strangers, and at work right now.  Episode Sources In Helping Others, Help Yourself Scientific Benefits to Helping Others How Helping Others Benefits You

    Trailer & Welcome!

Welcome to the podcast Obsessive Edification. This podcast was created based on the words in the title. The word edification means the instruction or improvement of a person morally or intellectually. I’m obsessed with personal growth and knowing more about a variety of topics (ranging from leadership development, communications theory, human interactions, trends, and more!). I often get excited about a book I’m reading, information I’m diving into, or an article that I came across. I’ll call friends to tell them all about the content and they insist on me sharing what I’m learning in a way that’s easy to listen to and in summary form. SO here it is, a way for me to share the content I’m excited and passionate about and for you to hear about it. Grab a coffee, fold some laundry, enjoy your commute, or just  sit back to listen, I’m glad you’re here.
