As someone new to hobby board gaming, my husband and I have had a tough time finding our people. Our nearest friendly local game store is nearly an hour away, and with both of us working two jobs—and being introverts—it’s hard to make the leap into in-person events. So while we wait for our board game crew to magically appear, we’ve found the next best thing: this podcast with Tim, Adam, and Chris.
Their conversations are everything we didn’t know we needed—thoughtful reviews, hilarious banter, and the kind of respectful disagreements that make you feel like you’re part of the discussion. They rib each other just enough to keep things light, and honestly, they’ve become our honorary board game friends. I’ve caught myself name-dropping them in conversations with my husband like we actually know them. (We don’t—but it sure feels like we do!)
I’ve been meaning to write a review for a while, but the “Theme Driven Mechanisms” episode finally pushed me over the edge. Hearing Dave Beck talk about Distilled and his visit to Kentucky hit home—literally. I grew up in Kentucky, just down the road from distilleries, with family who worked in them. That game is one of my favorites, and hearing it discussed with such care and enthusiasm was a real treat.
This podcast has made my commutes infinitely more enjoyable and has helped fill a gap in our gaming lives. So thank you, Tim, Adam, and Chris—for making the board game world feel a little more welcoming. Keep the games coming!
