RRR85: Is It Behavior or the Brain? What Every Parent Needs to Know - Dr. Amy Moore & Sandy Zamalis

In today’s episode, we’re diving into one of the most nuanced and emotional topics parents face: understanding how children learn, behave, and process the world around them. Many of us have asked questions like:Is this a discipline issue… or something deeper? Are they distracted—or struggling? Will they grow out of it, or should I lean in? Joined by two expert guests, Dr. Amy Moore and Sandy Zamalis we unpack the differences between neurotypical and neurodiverse learners, and what those labels really mean in everyday parenting. We explore the growing idea that homeschooling can function like an individualized education plan—and where that comparison helps or falls short. This chat is informative, helpful, and chock full of information for anyone guiding their older student towards the next step in their journey. Bonus! The CEP involves three assessments: (a) the ASVAB, an aptitude test that estimates your capacity for academic and vocational endeavors; (b) the Find Your Interests (FYI) inventory, which identifies job activities you would like to perform; and (c) the Work Values Situational Judgment Activity (WV SJA), which identifies what you most value in, and desire to receive from, the work you do. Following ASVAB administration (about 90 minutes), students will participate in a Post-Test Interpretation (PTI) session where they (a) learn what their ASVAB scores mean, (b) complete the FYI and WV SJA, and (c) begin to explore occupations (we link to more than 1,000 civilian and military careers through the Department of Labor's Occupational Information Network [O*NET]). Homeschool parents are encouraged to attend the PTI session.ASVAB CEP is open to students in 10th grade and above (college students included). There is no obligation to military service or to speak to a recruiter. Indeed, students need not have any interest in the military whatsoever to participate in and benefit from ASVAB CEP. Students need to be registered for testing, and they need to bring a laptop or Chromebook, and paper and pencil. Your contact info will be given to the test providers.__________Chattin' with CHAP is a series of informational podcasts designed to equip and encourage families on their homeschooling journeys.
