A Robin Hood Origin Story | The Uprising – Movie Review. Josh reviews The Uprising, Paul Greengrass’ 2026 historical action drama starring Andrew Garfield, Jamie Bell, Cosmo Jarvis, Thomasin McKenzie, and Tom Hollander. Set in England in 1381, the film dramatizes the Peasants’ Revolt, following a ploughman who becomes one of the leaders of a rebellion against the ruling class. The story also features historical figures such as Wat Tyler and John Ball. The film gained attention in the United States after being marketed as The Uprising: The Rise of Robin Hood, despite Robin Hood never being named in the movie. The ending does, however, depict Garfield’s character as a Robin Hood-like outlaw leader in Sherwood Forest. In this review, Josh breaks down the story, performances, action sequences, historical setting, Paul Greengrass’ directing style, and the controversial Robin Hood connection. Does The Uprising work better as a historical drama about the Peasants’ Revolt, or does its Robin Hood connection change the experience?
