Movie Mixology is a podcast for movie lovers and do-it-yourself bartenders alike. Join co-hosts Pat and Marissa Gibbens as they engage in their two favorite pastimes: watching movies and making drinks. Each episode, Pat and Marissa imbibe a drink associated with a particular movie or genre. The pair carefully (or, not so carefully) examines each drink, each movie, and sometimes, each other. These intrepid hosts are not movie critics or licensed mixologists, but they hope what they lack in professionalism, they make up for in witty banter and the occasional, accidental, on-air burp.

This week, Movie Mixology makes the XYZ cocktail inspired by 2002’s “xXx.” Joined by special guest Riggs Brown, the hosts chat about video games, vlogging, and Vin Diesel’s catchy one-liners. Plus, Pat and Marissa make a special announcement you won’t want to miss. So, sit back (or, snowboard down a mountain) as you stream this week’s Xander-zone episode!    XANDER: "You don't have shit on me." GIBBONS: "I notice you have three Xs tattooed on the back of your neck. I think that's rather appropriate since you're looking at three-strikes. Grand theft auto, reckless endangerment, and that little bridge stunt of yours...makes you a three-time loser. Maybe you oughta call yourself 'Triple-X." But if you do what I want, I'll make all your little recent criminal transgressions go away and let you get back to that pathetic excuse of a life." XANDER: "I think maybe I should be like you...get all shot up for those stars and stripes."   XYZ recipe 1.5oz of white rum (traditional) or spiced rum works just fine 1oz lemon juice 1oz triple-sec or orange liqueur Lemon peel for garnish (optional)   Add rum, lemon juice and triple sec to a shaker with ice and shake Strain into a chilled cocktail glass Optionally garnish with a lemon peel

While sipping their juicy drinks, Pat and Marissa discuss the movie’s clever plot points and undeniable chemistry between its leading stars. Between nitpicks, Dirty Dancing, and Michael Scott comparisons, the hosts cover it all. And who knows, they might even work 2010’s indie rock music into the conversation... Listen on to find out!!🎸🍸   INT. BAR - LATER Cal sits at the bar, drinking away his sorrows. He’s disheveled, a bit wobbly. BARTENDER approaches off-screen. BARTENDER: "Another vodka cranberry?" CAL: [not realizing]: "Sorr- What?" BARTENDER: [louder]: "Another vodka cranberry??" CAL: "Oh! Yeah...Yes. Thanks."   Vodka Cranberry recipe 1-2oz vodka Cranberry juice 1/2oz Lime juice Optional: Lime for garnish   Add 1-2oz vodka into a glass filled with ice. Top with cranberry juice and add lime juice. Stir. Optionally garnish with a fresh lime wedge.

    Ultimate Bloody Mary inspired by Underworld (2003)

    This week’s episode of Movie Mixology features three different battles. Vampires vs. Lycans. Critics vs. Fans. Marissa vs. Patrick. Just kidding about that last one. Or, are we? Tune in as Patrick and Marissa drink The Ultimate Bloody Mary inspired by 2003's “Underworld.” The hosts agree that the vampire outfits are killer, but will they concur that the movie’s special effects have stood the test of time? Listen on to find out! 🧛‍♀️   SINGE: "Even at the cellular level, our species seemed destined to destroy each other. That is, until we found Michael. The Corvinus strain allows for a perfect union. A triple-celled platelet...which holds unspeakable power." VIKTOR: "There can be no such union. And to speak of it is heresy". SINGE: "We'll see...Once Lucian has injected himself with Michael's blood." VIKTOR: [whispering] "Lucian is dead." BYRNES HOUSE - A FEW MINUTES LATER Greg enters the room wearing a turtleneck sweater that is clearly Jack's. JACK: "Shirt fit okay Greg?" GREG: "Oh, fantastic. Thanks Jack." JACK: "Good. Tom Collins coming up." Greg ignores this and begins exasperatedly whispering to Pam. GREG: "You know, I wish you hadn't told your parents that I hate cats!"      Tom Collins Recipe 2oz gin 1oz lemon juice 0.5oz simple syrup (OR replace syrup and lemon juice with 1.5oz Sweet & Sour mix)  Add ingredients to a Collins glass. Top with ice and club soda, then stir. Optionally garnish with lemon slice and maraschino cherry

    "Beer is for breakfast around here, drink or be gone." This week, Pat and Marissa watch a movie about working man aristocrats, Jamaican waterfalls, and get-rich-quick schemes. The movie is 1988’s “Cocktail” and the drink is tomato flavored beer (a.k.a. the “Red Eye”). Listen on to hear these hosts discuss just how much Tom Cruise’s character is addicted to love, slam poetry, and never learning from one’s mistakes.   FLANNIGAN: "Coughlin's Law?" COUGHLIN: "Douglas Coughlin, logical negativist. Flourished in the last part of the 20th century. Propounded at set of laws that the world generally ignored...to its detriment. Me. They’re all featured in 1989’s “When Harry Met Sally...” Join Pat and Marissa as they discuss Rob Reiner’s classic rom-com in celebration of Valentine’s Day. The hosts mix an original concoction - the "Jazzy-O" - and discuss the film's great comedic bits and the everlasting charm of Nora Ephron's hilarious script. Spread some love MoMixers!   SALLY: "Why? Most women, at one time or another, have faked it." HARRY: "Well, they haven't faked it with me." SALLY: "How do you know?" HARRY: "Because I know."
