    Being a Transfer Student

    Today, I sit down with Samuel Ogunsola, Sam is a transfer from Lone Star College currently in his junior year at the University of Houston studying Mechanical Engineering. During his time at Lonestar, Samuel played on the boys soccer team and served on the honors college leadership program as public relations coordinator, acquiring key leadership skills that he now uses at the University of Houston in three different clubs. He serves as studio manager for CoogTV, and Younglife Leader for the Young Life College Program at UH. Through the help of the Rice Take Flight program, he spent his summer participating in research at University of Colorado Boulder, working closely with a graduate student and engineering professor  Mike McGehee. Outside of academics, Samuel’s hobbies include playing soccer, learning about cars, going on walks/drives, and passively scrolling TikTok.

    Today, I sit down with David Udoh, David is a thoughtful, motivated, and community-oriented individual with a strong passion for engineering and using his skills to make a tangible impact. He is a junior chemical engineering student at The University of Texas at Austin, with a growing interest in applying engineering solutions to real-world problems that positively impact the community. David is currently working a summer internship with Linde and is currently exploring opportunities that combine technical innovation with meaningful service. He is an active member of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), where he enjoys building leadership skills, organizing events, and fostering a sense of belonging among fellow students. Outside of academics, David is committed to personal growth and wellness, consistently balancing his studies with regular workouts and creative pursuits.

    Today, I sit down with Rose Osafo, a first generation college student pursuing the path to medicine and the oldest of three kids. She is a non-traditional pre-med student and has had to navigate college using different resources and mindsets. She has a deep passion about opening up learning opportunities for people who need guidance. Whether it’s about the path to college, finding your purpose, the purpose of your health, or etc., she believes that everyone should have the chance to learn from others experience and apply to themselves.

At Rice, Ara has been actively involved in both leadership and service, and she brings a thoughtful perspective on navigating college as a high-achieving student. She’s excited to share her journey, especially what she wishes she knew before college, with students exploring their next steps. Ara also welcomes connections from professionals who are passionate about mentorship and building diverse pipelines into business, tech, and leadership.

    In today's episode, I sit down with Katie Collins, a rising sophomore at the University of Missouri studying veterinary medicine, to talk about what it’s like attending college out of state and the unique experiences and demands that come with pursuing a career in veterinary medicine.Katie Collins is a curious, intelligent, and compassionate young woman who is studying at the University of Missouri. She is majoring in animal science with a minor in captive wild animal management. Katie spends  her mornings in an exotic veterinary clinic interning and learning all about veterinary medicine and her afternoons teaching children to swim. At school, she is a devoted member to Alpha Kappa Psi (a business fraternity), Kappa Alpha Theta, and the Pre-Vet Club.

    In today’s episode, I sit down with Karys Bryant, a rising sophomore and biomedical sciences student at Texas A&M University, to debunk some of the most common misconceptions about being premed. Karys Bryant is a compassionate, driven and curious individual with a strong passion for the medical field and helping others. She is a sophomore pre-med student at Texas A&M University majoring in Biomedical Sciences with a minor in Spanish for the Health Professions. She is hoping to attend medical school after she obtains her bachelor's degree. She currently works at an urgent care clinic, where she gains hands-on experience in patient care and clinical settings. This role has deepened her passion for medicine and strengthened her commitment to serving diverse communities. She is also an active member of her sorority Kappa Delta, where she enjoys building leadership skills, supporting philanthropy, and forming lifelong connections.

    Today I sit down with Ashley Gravois. Ashley Gravois currently serves as the Assistant Director of Arts Outreach for The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, a globally recognized outdoor amphitheater and 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. In her role, Ashley oversees all educational programs for The Pavilion, as well as the missional outreach initiatives to make the arts accessible to all in our community.Ashley joined The Pavilion staff in May 2017 as the Public Relations and Educational Outreach Manager where she was responsible for overseeing public relations and education efforts on behalf of The Pavilion as well as graphic design needs to help brand awareness and drive community engagement. Prior to that, she served as the Social Media Specialist for The Woodlands Township.Ashley received her Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from Louisiana State University and holds a Master of Business Administration degree, with a specialized concentration in Hospitality and Tourism Management from the University of New Orleans.Ashley has a passion for giving back to her community and has served as the Vice President of Communications for her son’s school PTO for the past two years. She is also a proud member of Leadership Montgomery County’s current Class of 2025.

    Today we sit down with De'Andre Guin. De'Andre Guin, Sr. is the Director of Engagement at Meals on Wheels Montgomery County, overseeing Human Resources, staff development, and workplace culture. He also builds community partnerships and raises awareness of the organization's mission to support homebound seniors. Previously, he served as Mobility Planner for the City of Conroe Transit Department, addressing transportation needs for diverse populations. With 20+ years in healthcare, De’Andre is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist who served individuals with brain injuries, mental health conditions, and developmental disabilities.
