    Jim Wentz — Pine Island F.I.S.H. — Neighbors Helping Neighbors

    What did Jim Wentz do when no one volunteered to lead Pine Island F.I.S.H. — Fellow Islanders Sending Help? Jim volunteered himself! And after talking with Jim, we discovered that he and Jan don’t simply run an organization. They are part of the volunteer team, the administrative team, the fundraising team, the coordination team—and when a volunteer isn’t available, they step in themselves. At the heart of F.I.S.H. is something very Pine Island: ❤️ People taking care of people. 🌴🏝️ 👩🏼‍🦽👨🏻‍🦼‍➡️𓋿🩼📚🎒🏫 👟👕 👖👼🎄🎁 ⚽ 🧸🚗 🚂💳 But there’s one thing F.I.S.H. needs more of: volunteers. ✨ “The only thing we don’t have is a big enough volunteer base. Partly that’s a blessing, partly that’s a curse.” — Jim Wentz Maybe you’ve thought: “I’d love to volunteer, but I just don’t have much time.” Jim has an answer for that. ✨ “We don’t have a normal volunteer structure. It’s not one day a week or one week a month or one month out of the year. It’s when our phone rings, we call a volunteer and see if they’re available to take somebody to a doctor’s appointment…” You don’t have to commit to a regular schedule. When someone needs help, F.I.S.H. calls volunteers to see who is available. And Jim says you can simply call the F.I.S.H. phone line at 239-283-4442 and ask to be contacted about volunteering.     John Duckworth — A Yard You Can Just Enjoy

    John Duckworth believes great service starts with showing up, communicating clearly, and doing the job right. 🚜🌴🪴🌺🌳🏡🌿 But after talking with John, we discovered that what he provides goes beyond lawn care. Sometimes great service is simply giving someone peace of mind. When John told us what he wants for his customers, we knew he had summed it up perfectly: ✨ “They just want to be able to be kept.     Meet Suzanne Wilson, the creative force behind Sew Nautical’s beautiful custom window treatments, upholstery and marine interiors. 🌴🛋🪡✂️🛳⛵🚤 Have you ever wondered how custom drapery, re-upholstered furniture, or those comfortable marine chairs and benches come to life? Suzanne joined us to share how she does it—and the story of how her love of sewing began when she was growing up. What started as something she loved doing became a business that allows her to combine creativity, craftsmanship and, most importantly, her desire to make her customers happy. If you’ve driven past it—or even attended an event there—you may be surprised by just how much this organization offers the Pine Island community. 🏓 Ping pong,🥌 Shuffleboard,💃 Zumba,🎨 Painting,🀄 Mahjong,🎤 Open Mic,🧶 Crochet,🌿 Nature activities,🍽️ Community meals …and so much more! But Linda says it’s about more than activities. It’s about bringing people together, making friends, welcoming newcomers, and creating a place where people can belong. What began as an unexpected purchase became a place of healing, family, and community. Today, visitors of all ages can experience the joy of meeting their friendly farm animals, exploring the ranch, and enjoying coffee grown on the Moreno family’s farm in Nicaragua and roasted right here on Pine Island.
