Is Freemasonry Really a Secret Society? A Freemason Explains

Freemasonry has been shrouded in secrecy, symbolism, and speculation for centuries. In this episode, Furkhan speaks with Maynard Edwards of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry about how he understands the fraternity from the inside. They explore Masonic history, Scottish Rite degrees, membership, secrecy versus privacy, faith, symbolism, the origin of “blackball,” and common misconceptions. The conversation ultimately turns toward something much more human: self-improvement, male friendship, loneliness and the importance of belonging. The conversation moves beyond myth-busting into questions of character and community. Edwards explains the square, compasses and letter G through the moral lessons he associates with them; describes the rough ashlar as a metaphor for lifelong self-improvement; and becomes emotional discussing how Freemasonry gave him friendships he says he might never otherwise have formed. The result is less a defence of an institution than an exploration of why men seek brotherhood, structure, meaning and belonging. Maynard Edwards, 33°, is Associate Director of Membership for the Scottish Rite Southern Jurisdiction and host of the popular Tyler’s Place Podcast and Scottish Rite YouTube channel. Before joining Masonry, Maynard spent more than 20 years as an on-air personality in Baltimore. Since becoming a Mason in 2011, he has held numerous leadership roles at the local, state, and national levels across the Masonic fraternity. Most recently, Maynard produced and directed two award-winning documentaries, The Eleven Gentlemen (2026) and William Morgan: 200 Years Missing (2026), both available on YouTube. The Nervous System, Anxiety & a Different Way to Think About Treatment

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and Neurovana Calm founder Tauna Young joins Furkhan Dandia to explore anxiety through the lens of the nervous system. They discuss why anxiety can feel intensely physical, how fight-or-flight shapes our responses to modern stress, the nuanced role of psychiatric medication, and why mental-health treatment should move beyond one-size-fits-all thinking. Tauna also introduces Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation (CES) and discusses how she thinks about it alongside other treatment options. The conversation expands into fear, growth, meditation and what it means to help an overwhelmed nervous system find regulation. Tauna Young is a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, nervous system specialist, and founder of Neurovana Calm, where she helps reshape how we approach anxiety, insomnia, and mental health treatment planning. Her work focuses on one powerful idea: many people struggling with anxiety aren't broken — their nervous systems are overwhelmed.Through a combination of clinical expertise, neuroscience education, and evidence-backed tools like Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation (CES), Tauna helps audiences better understand what real nervous system regulation looks like and why modern treatment plans need to move beyond one-size-fits-all solutions. Known for translating complex mental health concepts into calm, relatable conversations, she brings a grounded, patient-centred perspective to the future of mental health care. When Your Loved One Refuses Help: The Legal Option Most Families Don't Know About

What do you do when someone you love is experiencing active addiction or a mental health crisis — and they refuse to get help? Furkhan speaks with Mark Astor, a Florida attorney who spent the early part of his career trying more than 200 criminal jury trials as a prosecutor, then rebuilt his practice around helping families navigate behavioural health law. Mark walks through Florida's Marchman Act and guardianship statutes, discusses the limits and due-process considerations around legal intervention, and explains why the real goal isn't simply obtaining a court order, but helping a person reach sustained recovery. He also shares his own story: failed bar exams, divorce, financial hardship, finding a mentor, taking personal responsibility, and eventually building a purpose-driven law firm. This episode explores the intersection of mental health, addiction, family, criminal justice, resilience, entrepreneurship, and law. This conversation is educational and is not individualized legal or clinical advice. Mark G. Astor is a former prosecutor, criminal defence attorney, legal analyst, and behavioural health law attorney with more than 30 years of courtroom experience. He is the co-founder of Astor Simovitch Law and The Mental Health & Addiction Law Firm, where he helps families navigate complex issues involving severe mental illness, addiction, involuntary treatment, guardianship, and family intervention. A former Assistant State Attorney in Palm Beach County, Florida, Mark prosecuted thousands of criminal cases and brings experience from both sides of the criminal justice system. He has also appeared as a legal analyst on Fox Live and local CBS and ABC affiliates, discussing high-profile criminal cases, behavioural health law, addiction, and public safety.   00:00 Welcome and Setup 01:00 Prosecutor Years and System Gaps 02:57 Career Detours and California Reset 04:27 Mentor and Entrepreneur Mindset 06:55 Launching Behavioural Health Firm 09:36 Lessons on Resilience and Growth 14:07 Why Trial Experience Matters 20:49 Diversion Courts and Family Options 25:00 Client Avatar and Disease Reality 27:34 Rights Versus Intervention Question 28:14 Due Process Protections 29:54 Balancing Rights and Safety 30:56 Why Florida Works 32:05 Marchman Act Powers 32:29 Guardianship Fast Track 34:02 Out of State Domestication 35:48 Team and Resources 38:44 Defining a Win 40:41 High Profile Case Insights 43:10 Behavioural Health in Sentencing 46:53 Trial Prep and Witness Strategy 52:29 How to Get Help 53:45 Closing Thanks Sponsors of the Podcast: AG1: Includes a free welcome kit. https://shop.drinkag1.com/EZCONVERSATIONS. Why Gen Z Isn't Lazy — And What Adults Are Getting Wrong

What do young people actually need from the adults in their lives? Dr. Zabina Bhasin — known as Dr. Zee — joins Furkhan Dandia to explore why listening may be one of the most important tools available to parents, educators, clinicians, leaders, and policymakers. A child and adolescent psychiatrist and founder of Listen to the KidZ, Dr. Zee describes herself as a Youth Translator: someone who helps adults better understand what young people are experiencing and turns youth perspectives into insights that can shape families, schools, communities, organizations, and institutions. In this episode, we discuss mindful listening, the generation gap, stereotypes about Gen Z, youth participation in decision-making, digital and body-image pressures, the influence of teachers and coaches, and why meaningful change requires transforming systems as well as supporting individual children. Dr. Zee’s mission is simple: Listen. Amplify. Transform. If we want a better future for young people, we need to build it with them — not merely for them. Why Confident Speaking Starts With WHO Is Speaking, Not HOW

What if stage fright isn't a speaking problem — it's an identity problem?  Katja Verderber, former pop singer and TV presenter turned communication expert, joins Furkhan Dandia to reveal why so many people — especially women — were never given permission to shine. From psychodrama role reversals to the animal archetype exercise, Katja's approach goes far beyond presentation skills into the heart of who you are when you speak. This episode is for anyone who has ever shrunk themselves to be liked. Katja Verderber is a transformational communication expert and founder of italk.live. A former award-winning singer and TV presenter in Slovenia (stage name: Katarina Mala — Catherine the Small), she draws on personal experience with self-doubt and losing herself by adjusting, shrinking, and performing to be liked. Her method helps people move from performance to authentic expression, combining psychology, performing arts, leadership coaching, psychodrama, and sociodrama for embodied change. She works with women who were never allowed to shine; men taught that vulnerability equals weakness; and Gen Z learning to take up space with their voice. Core belief: Communication does not start with technique. It starts with the question, “Who is speaking?” After years of therapy and inner work, she now helps others stop performing and speak from truth. Childhood Trauma, Healing & Turning Pain Into Purpose

What if the busyness you can't stop is actually a trauma response? What if the people-pleasing you can't shake is a nervous system survival strategy — not your personality? This week, Furkhan sits down with Anu Verma — trauma coach, author, and media personality — for a conversation that will stay with you long after it ends. Anu shares her story of childhood trauma, two rock-bottom moments, toxic relationships, financial abuse, and the long journey to healing — through Reiki, personal development, forgiveness, and writing her memoir Victim to Victor. She brings both lived experience and professional insight, offering a rare combination of vulnerability and wisdom. Whether you're in active healing or just beginning to ask the questions, this episode will give you language, perspective, and practical tools for your journey. We Are All Witnesses | A Palestinian Author on Gaza, Trauma, and Resistance

In this episode of EZ Conversations, host Furkhan sits down with Ramsey Hanhan, a Palestinian-American scientist-turned-author and activist, for a 75-minute conversation that is equal parts memoir, history lesson, and call to action. Ramsey draws on his two books, Fugitive Dreams and Palestine Bleeds For You, to walk listeners through the lived experience of growing up under military occupation in the West Bank in the 1970s and 1980s, the intergenerational trauma passed down through Palestinian families since the Nakba, the systematic silencing of Palestinian voices on social media, the true meaning of the Intifada, the colonization of the mind, and what it means to practice hope rather than simply feel it. The conversation is intimate, urgent, and historically grounded, offering perspectives rarely heard in mainstream media. Ramsey Hanhan is a father, scientist, and independent author of two books: Palestine Bleeds For You (2026) and the autobiographical Fugitive Dreams (2022). His short stories, essays, and poetry appear in The Harvard Advocate, Fikra magazine, Scene48, Mondoweiss and other publications. A former physics professor, Ramsey lives near Baltimore and speaks on Palestine and literature.    His debut novel, Fugitive Dreams, published in October 2022, is an autobiographical narrative about growing up under Israeli military occupation in Palestine and building a life in the United States. His second book, Palestine Bleeds For You, published in 2026, is a collection of poems and essays written in the aftermath of October 7, 2023, drawing on his experience reporting daily from Palestine as the war escalated. He is also active on Substack at renegadeliving.us and can be found via his Linktree at linktr.ee/Ramseyhanhan.
