    #101 Just do it...

You know the feeling: you’ll start when the kids are back in school, when work calms down, after midterm, after Christmas, when life is quieter. The truth is that “quieter” rarely arrives. We sit down and call out the perfect time myth, because it keeps good people stuck in the same loop of procrastination, guilt, and stop start fitness. We talk about what actually drives sustainable weight loss and long-term health habits: accepting that real life includes broken sleep, stress, birthdays, holidays, injuries, and the random stuff that derails your plan. Instead of aiming for flawless weeks, we argue for practising imperfection on purpose. If you can’t do the full workout, do 20 minutes. If tracking calories sends you down a rabbit hole, simplify your nutrition plan. Progress comes from adaptation, not excuses. We also get into discomfort, discipline, and identity. Most people chase comfort from the moment they wake up, then wonder why consistent training, steps, and mindful eating feel so hard. The goal is not to suffer, it is to build the skill of doing what you said you would do, even when it is a bit uncomfortable. Every small action is a vote for the person you want to become, whether your goal is fat loss, strength, confidence, or simply keeping up with your kids. If you’re ready to stop waiting and start building momentum, listen now, then subscribe, share it with a mate who’s stuck, and leave us a review so more people can find the podcast. #100 - Chasing everything , catching nothing

The fastest way to stall your progress is to keep changing the plan. We get stuck in shiny magpie syndrome when we jump from workout to workout, trend to trend, supplement to supplement, telling ourselves the basics “don’t work” while we’re not even nailing attendance, calories, and recovery. Daniel and I break down why the boring fundamentals win, and why you need to repeat the right stimulus long enough for your body to adapt.  We talk honestly about programme hopping, FOMO, and the fitness bandwagons that look exciting on Instagram but rarely match your actual goal. If you want fat loss, you need a sustained calorie deficit and patience. If you want muscle building, you need structured resistance training with progressive overload and enough food to recover. We also dig into hybrid training trends like Hyrox and why seeing a great physique doing a certain style of training doesn’t mean that training built the physique. Context matters, history matters, and results leave clues.  Then we get into the part people avoid: recovery, health, and real life constraints. Doing seven sessions a week on low calories can look “hardcore” while leaving you burnt out, under-fuelled, and running on fumes. We discuss red flags, why performance often improves when you eat more and do slightly less, and how good coaching meets you in the middle with phased, sustainable changes.  If you’re ready to stop chasing novelty and start building momentum, press play, then share this with someone who’s stuck on the latest trend. Subscribe and leave a review so more people can find practical, no-nonsense coaching. What goal are you actually training for right now? #99 Beat The Post-Holiday Blues

You get home, you step on the scales, and your stomach drops. A few days ago you were relaxed, sunburnt, and living on hotel breakfasts, and now you’re staring at a number that feels like proof you’ve messed it all up. We’ve coached enough people through this exact moment to say it clearly: post-holiday weight gain is usually not body fat, and panic is the fastest way to turn a normal blip into a longer setback. We break down what’s really happening when weight jumps after holidays: higher carbs and salt, more food volume, disrupted sleep, travel stress, less predictable movement, and the digestive chaos that can come with a new environment. We also talk about the biggest mistake we see before a trip, aggressive dieting right up to departure, and how it creates cravings, food focus, and that “reward” mindset that leads to a blowout. Our fix is simple and sustainable: set yourself up before you go, stay mindful while you’re away, then come home and return to your normal calories, steps, and training before you make any big changes. You’ll also hear practical ways to reduce friction on the first day back, from ordering food ahead of time to having easy meals ready, plus why starting a fresh training block can boost motivation and ease you in after a deload week. Finally, we zoom out to the bigger question: if every holiday ends in stress and punishment, is the real issue your all-or-nothing approach across the other 51 weeks? If you want a calm, no-nonsense plan for post-holiday blues, holiday weight gain, and getting back on track, press play. If it helps, subscribe, share it with a mate who’s panicking over the scales, and leave us a quick review. #98 - Can you still get in shape over 35??

You hit 35 and suddenly the world talks like you are on the scrapheap. We are not buying it. Larry Doyle and Daniel get honest about what actually changes after 35, and why “I cannot get results anymore” is usually a life problem, not a biology problem. We dig into the comparison trap of measuring a busy parent or stressed commuter against your 25 year old self who had more time, more sport, and fewer responsibilities. We talk realistic training for fat loss and muscle gain: why three solid strength sessions can be enough, how to adjust volume to match recovery, and why the smartest move is often doing less, better. Steps get a proper reality check too, because going from 4,000 to 10,000 overnight is a great way to quit. The conversation gets practical and messy: cutting down ultra processed food, sorting sleep, easing off the weekend drink, and building a routine that stacks the deck in your favour. We also tackle “notions” head on, from going too hard at tennis to the ego hit of being weaker than you remember, plus the truth about novel stimulus soreness when you bring back movements you have ignored. Former athletes will recognise the identity shift, and why training with purpose beats chasing old PBs. If hormones or testosterone are your go to explanation, we ask the blunt question: where is the proof? Listen, take one action you can control this week, then subscribe, share the episode, and leave a review. What is the biggest fitness myth you believed about training after 35? #97 - Busting Plateau's

If the scales haven’t budged in a couple of days and you’re ready to slash calories, we want to slow you down and save you weeks of frustration. We talk about what a real fat loss plateau actually is, what it isn’t, and why the most common “stall” is just noise from water retention, weekends, stress, and inconsistent tracking. We get practical about the metrics that matter for breaking a weight loss plateau: daily weigh-ins to build a trend, weekly averages, photos, and simple reality checks like belt notches and how your clothes fit. We also call out the easy escape hatches people lean on, like blaming sudden muscle gain during a long calorie deficit, and we explain how to audit adherence properly before you change a single thing. When it truly is time to adjust, we show how we decide what to change first based on the person in front of us: steps vs calories, small 10% nudges, and when structured cardio makes more sense than chasing tiny step increases. We also dig into NEAT and why adding lots of cardio can backfire if it makes you move less the rest of the day, plus when a diet break or maintenance phase can restore energy, mindset, and long-term progress. If you want calmer decision-making, clearer data, and a plan that doesn’t swing with every weigh-in, press play. Subscribe, share it with a mate who’s “stuck”, and leave us a review so more people can stop spinning their wheels. #96 - Fixing Decision Fatigue

Decision fatigue is not just an annoying buzzword, it is the reason so many smart, motivated people feel stuck. When every meal turns into a debate and every gym session starts with “what should I do today?”, you burn through willpower before you even begin. We get honest about how that mental drain shows up in real life, and why more options rarely leads to better results. We break down the simplest fix we know: build defaults. A short rotation of breakfasts, predictable lunches, and a flexible family dinner can make healthy eating feel automatic without forcing everyone into full-on weekend meal prep. We also talk about the “protein problem” people think they have, and why the real issue is usually overthinking, social media noise, and chasing perfect recipes instead of putting straightforward protein on the plate. On the training side, we look at the difference between structure and chaos. A clear workout programme saves time, creates progression, and stops you drifting around the gym with no direction. We also touch on automation, including how AI tools can remove tiny daily decisions, and why paying a coach is often a transaction for time, clarity, and headspace more than anything else. If you want less stress and more progress in your nutrition, fitness, and lifestyle, give this a listen. Subscribe, share it with a mate who overthinks everything, and leave a review with the one decision you are going to automate this week. #95 - Momentum That Actually Lasts

The number on the scales spikes overnight and your brain goes straight to panic mode: cut calories harder, add more cardio, scrap the plan. We take that moment apart and rebuild it into something far more useful: momentum as a long-term trend, like compound interest, where small actions repeated consistently create the results people chase with extreme “quick fixes”. If you have ever felt like one imperfect day wipes out all your progress, you will hear exactly why that story keeps you stuck. We talk through the practical tools that make momentum measurable and calm. Weekly averages for weight, calories, steps, and training stop you reacting to noise and help you make better decisions over time. We also get into the real momentum-killers: the weekend backlash, the missed-session spiral, and the urge to “fix” one problem by slashing the other three tyres. The goal is not perfection; it is keeping the line moving in the right direction across weeks, then months. From there we go into habits that actually move the needle, starting with sleep. Instead of trying to change everything overnight, we explain how to layer changes like caffeine timing, phone routines, and a consistent schedule so the process sticks. We also tackle busy periods like summer, holidays, work travel, and social events with realistic strategies including maintenance days, smarter drink choices, and planning ahead so you come back feeling steady rather than starting from scratch. If you want support and structure, we also explain our Momentum coaching block and who it is for. If this helps, subscribe to the Gen Pop Podcast, share it with a mate who overreacts to the scales, and leave us a review so more people can find it. #94 - Hiring A Coach Gives You Clarity Not Happiness

Coaching won’t make your life easier in the way people secretly hope it will. If your job is draining you, your stress is through the roof, or your routine is chaos, paying a fitness coach doesn’t switch that off. We say it plainly: coaching doesn’t buy happiness, and it doesn’t solve your problems for you. What it can do is give you direction, clarity, support, and the kind of external accountability that helps you stop drifting and start acting. We dig into the unsexy truth behind weight loss coaching and body composition change. Fat loss still comes back to a calorie deficit, plus the basics that make it sustainable: steps, training, sleep, food prep, and repetition. We talk about why the industry sells “instant transformation” stories, why that’s misleading, and why the real “secret sauce” is simply doing the work consistently. Even when you have the perfect plan, you’re still the one who has to get to the gym, put your hands on the bar, and make the choices when nobody is watching. We also give a practical framework for real life: setting expectations based on your stress levels and extending timelines when needed, instead of trying to force perfection. Then we share the traffic light system for managing weeks that go green, amber, or fully red, so you can reduce friction, keep adherence high, and avoid the stop-start cycle. If you want a grounded, no-nonsense take on online coaching, accountability, and sustainable fat loss habits, this is for you. Subscribe, share it with a mate who needs the reality check, and leave a review with the one habit you’re committing to this week.
