Abstract Essay in its sixth season, features Jennifer Ballow a Social Worker Writes Book About Tooth Fairyas my guest.

Jennifer Ballow Social Worker Writes Book About Tooth Fairy to Help Kids Connect with Caregivers My name is Jennifer Ballow and I’m a social worker and children’s book author in Austin. I wrote a children's picture book about the Tooth Fairy, called Under My Pillow. The story is about five-year-old Sam, who loses her first tooth. At her mom’s direction, Sam puts the tooth under her pillow for the tooth fairy, but the following day, it’s gone! No tooth and no present. Sam writes a letter to the tooth fairy inquiring about the tooth, and the tooth fairy decides to make an exceptional visit to Sam’s house. She arrives with her pet bird Gordy—who, it turns out, has stolen the tooth! Sam, her mom, and the tooth fairy team up to solve the mystery. Once they do, Sam must forgive Gordy’s “trick.” In this way, the book explores themes of problem-solving, trust, and forgiveness. My decades of experience as a social worker have taught me how critical social/emotional learning is to healthy childhood development and that stories, above all else, drive this learning—especially when reinforced by related activities. I wrote UNDER MY PILLOW to give kids the words to express their emotions, to model both curiosity and conflict resolution, and to challenge the roles tradition, family, and friends play throughout the coming-of-age experience. The supplemental questions and activities included at the back of the book are designed to spark creativity and foster imagination, while also encouraging children and their caregivers to connect in more meaningful ways.

Abstract Essay, now in its sixth season, proudly features Elliot Sawyer Loyalty Strategist and organizational culture expert who helps high-capacity organizations struggling with low employee buy-in transform into businesses that people genuinely love

Elliot Sawyer Loyalty Strategist: Helping High Capacity Organizations Experiencing Low Buy-In, Become Businesses People Love to Work For and Buy From I help businesses grow by building loyalty across leadership, teams, and customers. While this applies across industries, I’ve seen some of the strongest results in low-trust environments where skepticism is high and growth is hardest to unlock. That’s where loyalty becomes a true competitive advantage. In those settings, most companies rely on tactics rooted in self-interest, which leads to disengaged teams, guarded customers, and stalled growth. I help leaders replace that with a honor-based approach that increases connection, strengthens relationships, and drives demand. Part of what shaped this work comes from my own experience. Earlier in my life and career, I struggled with performance anxiety, which forced me to confront how much of my focus was on myself… how I was performing and how I was being perceived. When that shifted, everything changed. I began to see that the same self-focus shows up in business and quietly erodes trust. Since then, I’ve delivered over 1,500 talks and spent over 10,000 hours guiding professionals across a wide range of industries, shaping how they lead, build relationships, and show up in their work. My work shows that even in the most skeptical environments, loyalty can be rebuilt and become a multiplier for growth. What I bring to podcasts is a clear, bridging the gap between mindset and measurable business outcomes. I bring practical frameworks, real-world application, and a clear message: in low-trust environments, people skills aren't soft skills… they are the competitive advantage.
