Season 1, Episode 3: My Racial Trauma Was Triggered

This week’s episode is called: My Racial Trauma was Triggered. In this episode, I discuss how the January 6th event at the Capitol triggered my own, and likely many other BIPOC’s racial trauma. I process my own reactions, and discuss how our emotional reactions relate to racial trauma and negative core beliefs that have been internalized and reinforced through multiple experiences of racism and discrimination, and how anger is a secondary emotion that masks underlying emotions. Since we are discussing a sensitive subject, please note that this episode may be triggering for some. Dr. Sandra Gray, PhD is a bilingual licensed psychologist in Las Vegas, NV, where she owns a group practice, Innovation Behavioral Health Solutions, LLC. Dr. Gray specializes in trauma, working with first gen BIPOC professionals, working with immigrant populations through immigration evaluations, and the psychological and neuropsychological assessment of conditions such autism, ADHD, learning disorders, among other conditions. Dr. Gray has been in the mental health field for 12 years and is the founder of Borrando El Estigma and Empower LV, a nonprofit that focuses on increasing equity and creating access to services including mental health services, academic tutoring, and youth competitive sports programs. Season 1 Episode 2: Tough Love!

In this episode, I sit down again with Dr. Claudia Mejia, a licensed psychologist to dissect episode 2 of the Netflix Selena series from a psychological perspective. We discuss psychological and cultural factors such as representation, Latinx parenting and parenting in general, anxiety and anxiety based disorders, he impact of coping, and the importance of validation.   P.S., I apologize in advance as there are a couple of minutes where there is feedback/background noise in the episode. The day was gloomy and rainy and I decided to record from home (won't do that again; but I'm learning !)...there was an unexpected landscape company, my fur baby, and a super loud car that passed by (lol). Nevertheless, the content was worth keeping and the noise was brief. Hope you enjoy!   Check out the Erase the Stigma merch! We donate 25% of profits to fund mental health services for BIPOC.
