Season 6, Episode 52: Interview with Judith Roberts (Mary Shaw) from “Dead Silence” (2007)

Welcome back, horror fans! Follow me as we are stepping into the quiet, fog-shrouded town of Ravens Fair to talk about a film that has become an absolute crown jewel of 2000s supernatural horror: James Wan’s 2007 cult classic, Dead Silence. It’s a movie that taught an entire generation to keep their mouths shut, thanks to one of the most terrifying, theatrical villains in cinema history. I was joined by legendary Judith Roberts, the brilliant actress who brought the vengeful, tongue-snatching ventriloquist Mary Shaw to life. From her haunting theatricality to her chilling, doll-like stare, Judith created a horror icon that still gives fans nightmares nearly two decades later. from her stunningly macabre prosthetic makeup to the unforgettable nursery rhyme "Beware the stare of Mary Shaw", she delivered a uniquely terrifying villain that stands shoulder-to-shoulder with modern horror icons, and it was an absolute honor to have her with me. From her stunningly macabre prosthetic makeup to the unforgettable nursery rhyme "Beware the stare of Mary Shaw", Judith delivered a uniquely terrifying villain that stands shoulder-to-shoulder with modern horror icons. Speaking to her has been an absolute dream—or perhaps a beautifully crafted nightmare! Sharing the secrets of Mary Shaw's physical transformation, and reflecting on her incredible collaboration with James Wan. Her theatrical brilliance is exactly what made Mary Shaw so unforgettable. For everyone watching at home, if you haven’t visited Ravens Fair lately, do yourself a favor and revisit Dead Silence — just remember the golden rule if you see her in your dreams. And to our viewers... remember, beware the stare of Mary Shaw, she had no children, only dolls. And if you see her in your dreams, be sure you never, ever scream. We'll see you next time!

Season 6, Episode 47: Interview with Dakota Gorman (Lena) from “Hellcat” (2025)

Imagine waking up severely wounded, locked inside the back of a moving camper trailer, with no memory of how you got there. Your only connection to the outside world is the disembodied voice of the driver coming through a crackling intercom—a man who claims he’s trying to save your life, even as his stories become increasingly unhinged. Today, I’m thrilled to be sitting down with the film's incredible and very talented lead, Dakota Gorman. Dakota plays Lena, a woman trapped in a moving Airstream who is forced into a deadly psychological chess match with her unseen driver. What an absolute phenomenal interview! Sitting down with Dakota was an amazing experience and to hear what she had to say about her role and the movie. We spoke about the psychological aspect of misguiding the audience and provoking the thoughts of conspiracy theories, the festival runs, her experiencing the movie for the first time on the big screen, and how the stakes completely shifted by feeling relieved after the production of the sequences. A massive thank you to Dakota Gorman for pulling back the curtain on such an intense shoot. It takes a very special kind of talent to hold an audience’s attention when you are confined to a single room for 90 minutes, and Dakota absolutely nailed the physical and emotional exhaustion of Lena’s nightmare. If you haven't experienced this incredible, white-knuckle ride yet, Hellcat is currently available on Shudder.
