From the first episode, I knew you were not historians nor economists and I knew y’all were pretty liberal. But I wanted to see how you would rank the presidents. For the first 14 presidents you destroyed anyone who had slaves or leaned toward pro slavery. That made total sense. But then when you got to Lincoln, who by your own admission was a white supremacist and was not against slavery, you put him “#1 with a bullet”. That is so hypocritical! You didn’t even put in his most famous quote.
“my Paramount objective in this struggle is to save the union, and is not either to save or destroy slavery. If I could save the union without freeing a single slave, I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves, I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone, I would also do that.” -1862
He was doing the Missouri compromise, the Kansas Nebraska act, and the fugitive slave act. He was doing anything he could to save the union. His problem was that nobody wanted to compromise anymore. He should not be worshiped just because he did the exact same thing Everybody else did except he was forced into the war. Could he have been great? Maybe, butt we will never know.
My other catching point was about reparations. You said it would not hurt the country if we gave money to the Native Americans and former slaves because we would not have to raise taxes. I’m just wondering where you think money that the government has comes from. To spend more money, we have to raise more taxes. Did we not learn anything from Biden just handing out money?
The danger of podcast is anyone can say anything and people take it as truth, like when you say, Lincoln stopped a speech went into the audience beat somebody up and then finish the speech. That never happened but people now think that it did because you stated it. This is where the truth and rumors get mixed up.
