    11. Saudade

Alex has completed the half marathon, but in the hours afterwards he's left feeling empty and wearisome. On the journey back to Yorkshire he has a stark reminder that his fiancée has died and, in reality, the run hasn't solved anything. Alex has a chronic case of the post-run blues. But on top of that, he is longing for the thing he can't have, his old life with Kelly. As he looks over pictures and videos of a holiday to Portugal five years earlier he's reminded of a Portuguese word. Saudade. It means a nostalgic longing for something, or someone, that may never return. Will this post-run blues completely derail the progress Alex has made? How can he get back on track? 8. School's out

The summer holidays are always tough for parents with young children, more so for solo parents, and even more so for idiots who've signed up for a half marathon. Alex navigates the logistical and emotional challenges of solo parenting over the summer holidays, and the milestone of his daughter attending pre-school. And, although the half marathon training is going well, weight loss has stalled, so Alex invests in a meal prep service to help him on his weight loss journey. 6. Paranoid android

This week Alex is targeted by an advert from an AI company offering to allow him to speak to his dead fiancée. After the initial shock and anger at the predatory nature of being targeted at his lowest ebb, there was a yearning intrigue. Would it be so bad to indulge in this 21st-Century necromancy? Could it give him the reassurance he's craved for more than two years? Also, Alex attempts his longest run yet in his half marathon training, 14km. Alex wrote about "grief tech" and targeted ads from the "digitised afterlife industry" in the Telegraph, you can read the article here: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/08/20/ai-offered-bring-back-dead-fiancee/ Run Fatdad Run is written, presented and produced by Alex Regan. 4. Unhappy birthday

July used to be Alex's favourite month. It was his birthday month, and the month of his fiancée Kelly's birthday. It was also the month where they celebrated their anniversary. Two years after her death, it is now a month to endure. But in order to keep Kelly's memory alive, he makes his annual pilgrimage to the coast with the kids. It is also week four of his half marathon training and he is due to run his first 10k in six years. Will he succeed? Is he losing weight? Could his resolve be derailed by the inexorable weight of life and responsibility? Run Fatdad Run is written, presented and produced by Alex Regan.
