Listening to this podcast is like a warm hilarious fire on a cold, grey winters day. The hosts are witty, clever, and completely open books. They chat with you like you’re in the living room, they share their day, and then they completely decimate beloved romcoms in a way that still makes you want to watch, even if just to giggle along. Their clever insights and nonstop jokes keep me company on long walks and through dull workdays. I can’t enough!

Tropes and Dreams became my new favorite podcast almost immediately after hearing the name. It’s so fun and actually educational to listen to even though I haven’t seen any of the movies they talk about— their passion is infectious while deeply considered. When will Charlie and Olivia get asked to write their own rom-com script?? Producers.... hello!

Tropes and Dreams fills a unique niche through covering a genre of film largely dismissed by media critics- RomComs. Olivia and Charlie do an amazing job of picking apart movies that might not always be considered classics by “the academy” but are definitely household staples to thousands of romantic idiots like me. Using a feminist, anti-racist lens, both hosts deliver a cutting critique while also delivering some of the silliest one-liners you ever did hear. It’s clear Charlie and Liv both love the genre and are examining it in a thorough way few have been brave enough to do before. Tuning in every week really feels like being at a sleepover with your smart, cool best friends, and I can’t wait for the next episode :)
