    Just Listen

    Social and political climates this past year have been more tense than ever before in my lifetime. I asked my good friend Chinedu Ahanonu to have a conversation with me about his experience growing up black in a predominantly white state and what his feelings have been regarding the recent pushes for racial justice and equality. We cover topics such as Micro-aggressions, racial inequality in the US, the BLM movement, having difficult conversations with loved ones and friends, empathy and what we each can do to become a better support and friend for the people in our lives that we care about. This of course is not a bash on the brave men and women in the police force, they have our respect and gratitude for the work they do. However, if we are unable to listen to others with an open heart and mind, with empathy and respect, then how can we expect ourselves to be open to change? Change that could better the lives of all Americans and provide a safer and more equal environment for everyone living in this incredible country. Hence the title "Just Listen", too often we are ready to defend our beliefs, values, morals and ideas to the last breath, and too little are we willing to listen to the voices of people we claim to care about without interruption or defense. I hope whoever listens to this will have an open heart and mind.
