    Episode 2 - Ledge talks to Malcolm Joseph

    Malcolm Joseph has a musical career that has seen him worth with some of the biggest and most ground breaking artists on Planet Earth. As a bass player he has held the groove for Massive Attack, Neneh Cherry and the UBER star that is Grace Jones. Malcolm is also an educator and when the pandemic hit, was in the US setting up a music education facility in New Jersey. I talk to Malcolm  about how this pandemic has affected his livelihood and how he has managed to keep the 'wolf from the door.' Malcolm also shares his desires for a more engaged return to work when love events finally happen. He believes that whilst this break has been incredibly challenging, it may help audiences to re-assess their experience with gigs and festivals and enable them to immerse themselves in the moment more as opposed to just filling their Insta feeds. Oh, and there is a bit of bass guitar nerdery in there for good measure - because that is what happens when two bass players are left in a Zoom room for longer than five minutes.     Episode 1. Ledge talks to long time friend, session drummer, producer, author and raconteur Steve 'Smiley' Barnard

    Ledge and Smiley talk about how the life of a session drummer has changed since the global pandemic struck in early 2020.  They also look back over his musical journey so far that has seen him tour with artists from Robbie Williams to Joe Strummer and bands like The Mock Turtles, Archive and The Alarm and ask how a boy from Staines ended up playing with such legendary figures in rock and pop. Smiley talks about his work ethic and his how diversification into becoming a successful studio owner and producer has helped him through this current down turn in live music. He discusses his approach towards production and getting to the essence of a song and also has numerous tips for anyone thinking of pursuing a career in the music industry. Smiley has release 6 solo studio albums and his personal account of some of his encounters on the road are recounted in his debut book ''Clang - Smiley Drops a Few"  Described by the man himself as occupying a literary space somewhere between Alan Partridge and Danny Dyer is available through Gatecrasher Books or on Amazon.
