After a slight delay due to technically difficulties - namely me starting this thing without any technical nouse whatsoever - we are here with the very first episode of the Hot Air Podcast with me, your host, avid drinks enthusiast and sometime, “would like to be full time” live event host and sports commentator, Dan Williams. And what a guest we have in this first outing with my very good friend of, well, probably way too long, and fellow man on the mic, Matt Crowhurst. Matt, who I’ve known for well over 15 years, is kind of a ‘big deal’, which he won’t thank me for saying, in the world of UK and European wakeboarding. Having been around since pretty much the start of the sport over here and won a bunch of National and European titles during his time, he has pushed and continues to push the profile of all forms of wake sports as hard as anyone. Over the past 20 plus years of this career that has included professional rider, industry journalist, athlete team manager, brand ambassador, event organiser and more besides he has also managed to nurture an equally impressive career as one of the most sort after live event action sports hosts and MC’s in the UK. I caught up with Matt for the usual back and forth digression into weirdness that makes up most of our chat while also managing to glean a bit more of a backstory to his life, how he transitioned from the water to the mic, and what lies ahead for him, his family (Sophie, Kit and Jasper) and the sport of wakeboarding he loves so much.
