A Daughter’s Last Three Months: Finding Healing in a Garden with Author Theresa E Evans

My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Theresa E Evans, author of the book Choosing to Die. Theresa Evans nursing career spanned fifteen years with a focus in Critical Care. She opened Stone Path Studio in 2007 where she taught therapeutic yoga and somatic movement. In 2014 she joined forces with Essential Somatics, LLC and began a 5 year journey of domestic and international travel teaching and developing program content for Clinical Somatic Trainings. In 2020 her mother died with MAiD (Medical Assistance in Dying.) Choosing to Die is her first novel and was born out of the experience of supporting her mother through that process. Currently she lives in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin with her husband Pete. Her focus now is on advocating for choice through Assisted Death.   In my book review, I stated Choosing to Die is a memoir by Theresa E Evans. I have to admit, this was a difficult one for me to read. Having recently lost my husband to a devasting brain cancer, stories about death and dying touch me in places that are not always easy to handle. Nonetheless, I believe completely in the topic at hand - medical assistance in dying.   This is a topic that gets people up in arms. Should we take life into our own hands? And if so, how should it be done? Theresa doesn't dive into this controversy, instead focusing her book on the last months with her mom who had made the choice to die on her own terms. What did that look like and how did it feel as a daughter, especially as a daughter with a medical background?   This memoir is beautifully written and weaves the preparation of her mother's garden for winter with the winding down of her own mother's life. If nothing else, this book will show you what it looks like to show up for someone simply because you love them.   Subscribe to Online for Authors to learn about more great books! https://www.youtube.com/@onlineforauthors?sub_confirmation=1   You can follow Author Theresa E Evans Website: https://theresaeevans.com/ FB: @Stone Path Press IG: @sgtonepathpress Linked In: Theresa Evans, RN, RYT 500   Purchase Choosing to Die on Amazon: Paperback: https://theresaeevans.com/ Ebook: https://amzn.to/4r0rdUn   Teri M Brown, Author and Podcast Host: https://www.terimbrown.com FB: @TeriMBrownAuthor IG: @terimbrown_author X: @terimbrown1   Want to be a guest on Online for Authors? More Than a Little Old Lady: The Secrets Behind a Lifetime with Author Lynne Marshall

My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Lynne Marshall, author of the book The Extraordinary Dreams of Cynthia Peabody and Cynthia Peabody's Big Fat Fake Funeral. USA Today Bestselling author Lynne Marshall has penned thirty-seven books. She has written Medical Romance for Mills & Boon, contemporary romance for Harlequin Special Edition and digitally with TULE. Publishing independently, she writes Women's Fiction where she explores the mysteries of life through endearing characters in unexplainable situations. Or, as she likes to call it, fiction for women of a certain age plus everyone who loves their nana.   In my book reviews, I stated The Extraordinary Dreams of Cynthia Peabody is a speculative women's fiction by Lynne Marshall. It's cozy. It's fun. It has delightful characters. It has some romance. And it has a bit of mysticism. What's not to like?   Cynthia Peabody is a grieving, somewhat cranky older widow who suddenly discovers she may actually have super powers. Either that, or she is going insane. Both are equally possible.   After a several months of isolation due to her husband's death, she finally begins reaching out to her friends and neighbors, just as these powers begin to show themselves. I enjoyed the full cast of characters from the elderly neighbor on a motorized scooter chair to the green-haired teenager to the older ensemble dancer. Everyone is quirky, and everyone has a story!   If you love an easy-to-read story about found family and growing older coupled with a bit of speculative fiction, then this is the book for you.   AND   Cynthia Peabody's Big Fat Fake Funeral is a speculative cozy mystery by Lynne Marshall. Although the second in the series, this book changes genres slightly, moving from women's fiction to cozy mystery but still having the speculative element. It can be read without reading the first one, but why? You'll love both!   This story starts with Cynthia in her new older adult independent living community. Her friend, Ronnie, has also moved in, and the two of them find themselves deep in the middle of a murder. Ronnie witnesses it first-hand but the shock of it leaves him with amnesia. Cynthia witnesses it but can't say so to the police. Why? She did it in a dream!   The book has two big mysteries to solve. Who killed the man in the woods and why. But even more importantly, how did Ronnie summons Cynthia's dream-walking when he was in trouble? Both questions lead to funny - and sometimes heart-racing - trouble. You will laugh - and if you've suffered loss, you may find a tear or two. I know I did.   The ending will leave you reeling and smiling. Medieval Intrigue: Villains, Heroes, and Twists That Work with Author Robert A Walker

My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Robert A Walker, author of the book Six Moons, Seven Gods. Robert A. Walker grew up in Northwestern Massachusetts. After graduating college, he packed his scant belongings in a car with rusted-out floorboards and headed west, where he began a decades-long career in local government. He’s lived in California ever since, and now resides along the Pacific Ocean with his wife and dogs, where he writes fantasy novels with a mix of drama, heart and humor.   His debut novel, Six Moons, Seven Gods, (the first in a fantasy trilogy titled The Legends of Baelon) received several honors, including The Chrysalis BREW Project’s Readers’ Choice Award for June, 2024; Chick Lit Cafe’s Book Excellence Award for Best Medieval Fantasy, November, 2023; a Literary Titan Gold Book Award in December, 2023, and a Readers’ Favorite Bronze Award in 2024.   More recently, Book Two in The Legends of Baelon series–Two Crowns, Three Blades–received Reader Views’ 2025 Gold Book Award; Word Media’s Page Turner Award; Literary Titan’s Silver Book Award, 2025; and a Reader’s Favorite Bronze Book Award.   Book Three, One Taste of Euphoria, is due to be released September 1, 2026!   When not fabricating stories, Robert can be found roaming local tennis courts or working on a never-ending list of DIY house projects.   In my book review, I stated Six Moons, Seven Gods is a fantasy by Robert A Walker. And despite fantasy not being one of my go-to genres, I loved this story. Why? Because the characters were so well-developed. I simply had to keep reading to learn what happened to them.   Sibil Dunn is a young woman who finds herself at a crossroads. Her father died when she was young. Her mom is crazy. Her best friend died in a tragic accident. And the boy she has loved for years is about to become a knight and doesn't even know she loves him. And then life gets worse.   The storyline will keep you engaged, but it is the characters, including all the side characters, who will hook you in. Evil-doers, thieves, royalty, priests, knights, and simple townspeople just doing their jobs - all captured my attention and made me feel like I was living in the kingdom of Baelon. I really loved that even the good-guys weren't perfect and often made errors of judgment. Great job, Robert, on making fiction characters feel real.   This is a must-buy!   Subscribe to Online for Authors to learn about more great books! https://www.youtube.com/@onlineforauthors?sub_confirmation=1   You can follow Author Robert A Walker Website: https:www.//rawalkerwriting.com FB: @Robert A Walker, Author IG: @rawalkerbooks LinkedIn: Robert A Walker   Purchase Six Moons, Seven Gods on Amazon: Paperback:  https://amzn.to/4g6xXfH Ebook: https://amzn.to/3TWdiCx   Teri M Brown, Author and Podcast Host: https://www.terimbrown.com FB: @TeriMBrownAuthor IG: @terimbrown_author X: @terimbrown1   Want to be a guest on Online for Authors? She blends more than 30 years of experience across business strategy, marketing, writing, and multi-disciplinary teaching with over a decade spent guiding beginners through technology, including six years with WordPress.   Tanya’s approach is rooted in what she calls anti-marketing for fiction authors, a mindset and strategy shift that replaces pressure and hustle culture with clarity, storytelling, and sustainable visibility. Power Has a Price: When Secrets Become Deadly Weapons with Author DL Cary

My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is DL Cary, author of the book Maria's Shadow. D.L. Cary – Christian Suspense & Clean Thriller Author Author Bio. D.L. Cary writes faith-driven Christian suspense and clean thriller novels that fuse pulse-pounding intrigue with uplifting themes of redemption, justice, and hope. His debut series, The Veil Chronicles, gives fans of inspirational fiction, redemptive suspense, and spiritual thrillers a front-row seat to covert conspiracies and spiritual warfare— delivered in a page-turning, family-friendly style that never relies on profanity or graphic violence. Rooted in Alabama, D.L. has spent 27 years married to his best friend, Heile, and shares their home with a rambunctious squad of pets. He credits his creativity to his faith and readers who crave values-driven stories where justice prevails, and hope endures.   In my book review, I stated Maria's Shadow is a domestic thriller by DL Cary. If you enjoy books with powerful secret entities that keep dirt on all the players from elected officials to presidents of companies, then you are going to love this book.   We quickly meet a young woman from Mexico who thinks she is leaving her home for a better life. However, she finds herself part of a human trafficking ring - and pregnant. Despite a narrow escape, nothing is safe for Maria because the Saffron Veil has eyes and ears everywhere.   Detective John Jefferson and his FBI buddy, Special Agent Marcus Carter, find themselves embroiled in Maria's plight - and that of many others just like her. But like Maria, John and Marcus soon realize that whoever is behind the trafficking ring has people in high places - high enough to get them killed.   This is a fast moving story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Women Behind the Gospel: Seeing Jesus Through Their Eyes with Author Katie Sampias

My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Katie Sampias, author of the book Her Story of Jesus. Katie Sampias is a Christian, wife, mother, who writes about mystery, hope and contemplative prayer. All her life she has loved every aspect of stories – reading them, writing them, imagining them and investigating and researching them.   She grew up in Brisbane, Australia, in a busy household with five children. She was the only girl!   It was not long after she learned to write that she discovered her love of writing stories. At the age of 12, she won a trip to Vanuatu for writing she had submitted to the local paper.   She finished school, went to college, and started working in a field that was not writing, but the desire to write never left her. Her Story of Jesus is her first complete book. It was something that bubbled up from within, and she simply had to finish!   In my book review, I stated Her Story of Jesus is a religious historical fiction by Katie Sampias. Katie uses something she calls investigative imaginative prayer to understand Jesus. In other words, she imagined herself with women mentioned in the Bible and then asked questions like, "How did their encounters change them?" "What would it have been like to have been in that place at that time?" "What were they feeling?" Her imaginings led to this book where the reader gets to be inside a gospel story but from the viewpoint of a lesser-known woman.   From Mary, the mother of Jesus, to her midwife, to the bride at the Cana wedding, to Pilate's wife, and more, we see Jesus from the eyes of these women. We learn their story and how meeting Jesus changed them - and why. I loved this idea and actually have been contemplating my own narrative about Mary but didn't have the words like imaginative prayer or imaginative contemplation.   I think that this is a good book even if you don't see yourself as especially religious. It might open your eyes to what women of another time thought and how they responded when meeting a religious figure. It's an easy read - don't miss it!   Subscribe to Online for Authors to learn about more great books! https://www.youtube.com/@onlineforauthors?sub_confirmation=1   You can follow Author Katie Sampias Website: https://katiesampias.com/ IG: @katiesampiaswrites FB: @Katie Sampias Writes LinkedIn: @Katie Sampias Substack: https://substack.com/@katiesampias Purchase Her Story of Jesus on Amazon: Paperback: https://amzn.to/4grJOEb   Teri M Brown, Author and Podcast Host: https://www.terimbrown.com FB: @TeriMBrownAuthor IG: @terimbrown_author X: @terimbrown1   Want to be a guest on Online for Authors? Real Lives, Fictional Paths: The Power of Family Lore with Author Tudor Alexander

My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Tudor Alexander, author of the books The Last Patient and In Darkness and Light. Alex Duvan, who publishes under the pen name Tudor Alexander, was born in Bucharest, Romania in 1950 and moved to the United States in 1977. He holds a Master’s degree from the Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest and an MBA from the University of Connecticut. Alex lives in Maryland with his wife, Viorica, and has a son, a daughter, and three grandchildren.   Alex started writing in high school, and enjoyed an early success, publishing many short stories in established literary magazines. Although writing was his passion, he studied engineering and management to support his family. After the 1989 Romanian revolution, he published several novels and short story collections in Romania, including The Runners, Smoke, Planet New York, One Morning and One Afternoon, and The Visitor.   Alex writes in both Romanian and English. He tells the story of immigrants struggling to adapt to a new country and a different culture, and finding the courage to overcome the fear of the unknown. They are people who, like the author, took a leap of faith to find political and intellectual freedom, despite the heartbreak of leaving friends and family behind. Was it worth it?   He is a member of the Maryland Writers Association and serves on the board of directors for the Little Patuxent Review, a biannual Maryland literary publication.   In my book review, I stated The Last Patient is a historical fiction by Tudor Alexander. This book captures what it was like to live in communist Romania during the 50 years after the end of World War II.   The two main characters are Kostea and Clara, both doctors and both trapped in a world not of their choosing. Kostea joins the communist party in hopes of advancing his career. Clara works in a lab so she has 9 to 5 hours and can be available to raise her son. Both struggle to figure out who they are in a world full of shared apartments, food shortages, and government corruption.   Although they love one another fiercely, they also make mistakes - some of them costly. They both also love their country and are fiercely Romanian, despite the current regime. I love how we see their ordinary lives and decisions against the backdrop of communism. We see joy and sadness and pride and fear. People find a way to live despite their circumstances.   I loved this book and think you will too.   In Darkness and Light is a historical fiction by Tudor Alexander. This book is the second book from the author about living in Romania during and following WWII. Tina is a young Jewish girl who determines communism, rather than Zionism, is the answer that makes the most sense in an antisemitic world. When she is forced to the village of Transnistria and suffers with her Jewish friends and family, her communist convictions solidify. But when Romania becomes communist, Tina meets Iulian and begins to see that the ideals of communism aren't matching the actualities.   I love this book because it shows a young girl's progression along with Romania's progression. It is also a beautiful, but tragic, love story. And a story of resilience and grit and reinvention.   I absolutely loved this book!   Subscribe to Online for Authors to learn about more great books! https://www.youtube.com/@onlineforauthors?sub_confirmation=1   You can follow Author Tudor Alexander Website: www.tudoralexander.com Social media: FB: @alexduvan FB: @TudorAlexander IG: tudoralexanderauthor LinkedIn: Alex Duvan   Purchase The Last Patient and In Darkness and Light on Amazon: Paperback: https://amzn.to/4fRxnlO and https://amzn.to/4q7dU4b Ebook: https://amzn.to/4q5l7BC and https://amzn.to/4hm8lwn   Teri M Brown, Author and Podcast Host: https://www.terimbrown.com FB: @TeriMBrownAuthor IG: @terimbrown_author X: @terimbrown1   Want to be a guest on Online for Authors? The Past Repeats: Lessons from One Life in American History with Author Lee Knapp

My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Lee Knapp, author of the book I'm History ... but do I repeat myself? Lee Knapp is a lifelong Virginian and is steeped in its history. She grew up in Richmond, attended college at William and Mary in Colonial Williamsburg, and now lives in rural Louisa near Charlottesville. Lee spent her career as a high school history teacher, an entrepreneur and artist around all things ceramic, a copywriter and editor, a proprietor of a tourist home, sometimes called an Airbnb, and of course, an author.   In my book review, I stated I'm History ... but do I repeat myself is a memoir by Lee Knapp. We follow Lee from a young girl to retirement and watch all the iterations in between. Along the way, we also see the change in Richmond, Virginia, her old alma mater, and the world at large.   Lee tackles tough subjects. Is it okay to love and respect someone despite some of the things they believe? Do cultural differences really make people different? Can new versions of old things be as good as the the original? Are we making history or is history making us?   This was an interesting story that looks not only at her own life, but weaves in historical context as well. No doubt, I would have enjoyed being in one of her history classes.   If you like a good memoir that makes you think about your beliefs, then this is the book for you.   Subscribe to Online for Authors to learn about more great books! https://www.youtube.com/@onlineforauthors?sub_confirmation=1   You can follow Author Lee Knapp Website: https://imhistorybook.com/ Substack: @leeknapp IG: @leeknapp1 LinkedIn: Lee Knapp   Purchase I'm History ... but do I repeat myself? on Amazon: Paperback: https://amzn.to/4bFBHCj Ebook: https://amzn.to/4g8RFpV   Teri M Brown, Author and Podcast Host: https://www.terimbrown.com FB: @TeriMBrownAuthor IG: @terimbrown_author X: @terimbrown1   Want to be a guest on Online for Authors?
