    12. a wine down for the finale!

we're closing out the season with a wine down. thank you all for tuning in with us and supporting us on this ride. we're looking forward to season two but this break is so necessary! show notes: while discussing rita moreno, i—@brinnoire—referenced the Grapevine's most recent episode (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIg6if0NBlY) during the conversation about the colonization of Black beauty, @ayeshakfaines paraphrased a passage from moreno's memoir. while editing this episode, i learned that Ayesha recently passed away. The Grapevine is an amazing platform that amplifies the voices of some of my favorite Black millennials. Ayesha K Faines was top tier and she will be deeply missed. also, historian Lyra Monteiro's interview about Lin Manuel Miranda's 'Hamilton' can be read here: https://slate.com/culture/2016/04/a-hamilton-critic-on-why-the-musical-isnt-so-revolutionary.html FYI:    we can be found on Instagram: @familymeetingpod @brinnoire and @t.andrew.jones if you’re wondering how you can support the family meeting podcast, we got you... 1. share the podcast—take a screenshot or screen record your favorite segment of an episode, post it on IG and tag us! 2. rate, review & subscribe (or whatever the system is on your preferred streaming platform... *bonus: rate & review on all streaming platforms) 3. send us questions for our occasional ‘questions that need answers’ segment! our email address is familymeetingpod@gmail.com, you can also slide in our DMs or click the 'voice message' link at the bottom of the show notes to send us a voice message (chances are, you’ll hear yourself on the podcast) and it’s cool if you don’t have a question, you’re welcome to use the contact info listed above to say “hello,” “great job,” or “keep it up!” and yes, you may hear that on the podcast as well! again, thank you for the support thus far! you are appreciated. *cover art by @queenloany important links: if you would like to contribute to the quality and production of the family meeting podcast, you can make a one-time donation to our paypal: paypal.me/familymeetingpod OR become a patron by pledging a monthly donation on patreon: https://www.patreon.com/familymeetingpod

    8. representation, DC3 & janet mock

we had fun recording episode 8! we started with a conversation about representation, diversity and inclusion — it matters but it ain't everything! during the wine down we celebrated the 20th anniversary of Destiny's Child's iconic album 'Survivor' by running through the tracklist and reminiscing on each song! we closed with a discussion brought on by Janet Mock's no-holds-barred speech at the 'Pose' premiere party. episode 7 opens with a conversation about the importance of prioritizing (and normalizing) the mental health of our people. after some heavy talk, we got into the wine down, sipped rosé and cackled at the thought of Anthony Hopkins winning the academy award for best actor over our beloved Chadwick Boseman—among other 'oscar' commentary. other topics include: the allure of hand-written letters, children and parenthood. enjoy!
