    Artist Pulse Ep. 1: How are photographers pivoting?

    This week we have the privilege of chatting with 3 emerging names in the freelance photography scene of the Philippines. In this episode we have Kevin Brent Estrada Sanderson, fashion photographer based in Bahrain who's pioneering "Facetime shoots" to continue his practice in a time of COVID; Dj Magbanua, a fashion photographer placed on a crossroads, who's since become an artistic director for an agency; and Bianca Arreola, a product and events photographer who's since began the process of rebuilding her portfolio for a completely new audience. Three photographers, three kinds of pivots. Listen as they share their challenges, how they've adapted to uncertainty with the help of tech, friends and a bit of economics, and insights for how photographers can use this time to further hone in on their craft and rise above.     Intro: Who is Art Restart Asia?

    Let’s get the ball rolling! In this episode, we introduce Art Restart Asia as a platform for sharing how artists are trying to survive and thrive in this new world. Art Restart founders Tengal, Lawrence, and Leah reflect on what brought them together for this project, sharing some of the common challenges to do with bridging the artistic and economic dimensions of the practice and how further dialogue among peers in the industry can help drive better and more resilient ways forward. We dig deeper into the results of our first Artist Pulse Survey: How Are Artists Surviving the Pandemic? We discuss how survey respondents validate what we as a community already know around artists pivoting careers to make ends meet; but also highlight how practitioners are experimenting with new modes of transacting with their audiences. Art Restart then previews how it plans to unpack these issues with special guests.
