Been a long time listener, but this is my first review. I had to write something for how mind opening the content advice you guys gave at the end of the Explosive Situations episode was for me. Not content creation related at all, but the advice reaches to all areas of growing up and career focus. Thanks for putting out such great shows.

Your episode with John Taffer was surprising—and not in a good way. He argued that there’s nothing happening in music right now and that the nightclub business can’t make money because the music that attracts young women also attracts “gang bangers.” You seemed to largely accept that premise. That claim ignores one of the biggest realities in modern music: Spanish-language music—especially reggaeton, regional Mexican, and rancheras—have exploded domestically and globally. These genres dominate streaming charts, sell out arenas, and drive nightlife scenes across the United States, Latin America, and Europe. There is enormous economic activity built around them. If someone believes there’s no money to be made in clubs today, the issue isn’t the music industry—it’s that they’re out of touch with where the audience actually is. Entrepreneurs who understand Latino culture and the music ecosystem already know this. Clubs centered around Latino music thrive in cities across the country because the demand is real and the audience is massive. For perspective, I’d encourage the show to look at the research from the Latino Donor Collaborative, which documents the scale and economic power of the Latino cohort in the United States. The numbers make it clear: this audience is not niche—it’s one of the most powerful drivers of the modern American economy. Also worth noting: every music scene attracts a range of people. Country music venues attract biker gangs, rock venues attract their own subcultures, and electronic clubs have their own crowd dynamics. That’s not unique to Latino music—it’s simply the nature of nightlife. The real takeaway is simple: there is plenty of money to be made in nightlife today—but it will be made by operators who understand the culture and the music that people actually want.
