What she believed would be a brief delay for paperwork became 73 days inside immigration detention facilities in California, Texas and Arizona. Everlee tells The Beard and Dimples how she was separated from her family, pressured to sign a document she wasn’t allowed to read, transported in belly chains and shackles, and denied food and privacy. She also describes detention-center failures that repeatedly kept her from scheduled court hearings. Everlee explains how a dishonest former lawyer contributed to her immigration nightmare, what happened when her Wisconsin conviction was vacated and why ICE released her without her passport, Green Card or official release papers.
