    My guest on this episode are NY/NJ Port Authority manager and jazz vocalist, Steve Comity; and NYC Board of Education Administrator/Educator and Jazz drummer, pianist, percussionist and singer Eric Frazier.  Mr. Cromity poignantly relate his harrowing journey from the 73rd floor of the NY World Trade Center to safety after hearing the planes crash into the buildings on 9/11/2001. He did not realize the life threatening danger he was in  while descending those steps. It is a truly gut wrenching, powerful experience to have in ones life.  Mr Fraizer talks about his experience being a Principal in the NY Board of Education school system. He was a remarkably focused educator that made a difference with his students and staff.  Both  gentlemen got deeply entrenched in the New York jazz scene upon their retirement from their respective careers. It's a wonderful story about changing the downward trajectory of your life course, perseverance and setting goals, while being true to yourself. Enjoy! In July 2014, he returned to Piney Woods as the first alumnus to serve in this capacity. A trained University of Chicago and Harvard educator, he is also a lawyer and  Civil Rights expert, having served as a Senior Advisor in the Office for Civil Rights at the US Department of Education for President Barack Obama. His bully and outgoing personality make this a truly memorable, informative yet funny episode! Enjoy!!!     A must hear, simply marvelous episode of two sisters, Catherine Thomas, Esq and Dr. Claudia Thomas, MD. Catherine Thomas was a Civil Rights and International Business attorney, who was involved in some of the important civil rights cases in America. She is now a realtor in the Maryland area. Her sister, the 1st Black women orthopedic surgeon in the United States, was one of the student leaders of the successful takeover of the Vasser College administration building in 1969. It led to the Board of Trustees acquiescing to the black students 9 demands without getting expelled. Her example and mentoring has lead to now over 100 Black women orthopedic surgeons now in the United States. It is a story of wonderful parenting at a time Black had to breakdown barriers to education... a testament of wonderful, courageous parents of the 50's and 60's. She has imparted her pearls of leadership wisdom to over 100,000 people. This is a magnificent episode the magnifies the theme of this Podcast, "Progress Despite Obstacles." It is a story of a teenaged mother on welfare, whose mother and her domestically abused by father, abused by her her husband who threaten to kill her. She was raped by her best friend's husband... she did exactly as Maya Angelou wrote..."and still I rise." She became the first in her family to attend and graduate from college. Award winner International seasoned performer/vocalist Berklee Conservatory School of Music,  own Alumni with honors, Grammy Voting member, flourishing multi talented pianist,and guitarist ,Whitney Marchelle Jackson has performed at prominent concert events for the World Cup , Dubai Hotel, United Nations, Apollo, New York Blue Note, Parkers Thompson Hotel, Berklee School of Music,  on Campus (standing ovation), Pier 84, Rutgers University, Numerous venues and festivals in Japan, Hawaii ,Canada, and USA. Music in Jazz, American, Songbook, blues,latin and some pop standards. Whitney Marchell Jackson had a credited acting and pianist role where they won the Best Feature Film at the QueerX Film Festival 2022 for Poets are the Last Destroyers. She worked with Dee Dee Bridgwater (duet)Art Deco Festival, Quincy Jones, Wayne Newton,Herbie Hancock, Opened For KISS, Bill Withers, Donny Hathoway, and has recorded three albums. Recently,on Channel 13 with an interview and performance . Receives international radio air play for her last three albums. Marchell Plays piano and guitar ASCAP songwriter. Teaches where students have been on movie Harriet, Tina Turner Boradway show, And received 100 plays on the radio. Whitney also is now taking the vocal performace undergraduate program at berklee. JazzTimes magazine quotes Whitney as a "Formidable singer with a scorched soulful Jazz sound."  She always has a great audience attendance,reviews and helps promote her gigs on radio and social media. He has played with some of the all time greats, including Dizzy Gillespie, Mongo Santamaria, Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Ruben Blades, Randy Brecker, to named a few. He was named Percussionist of the Year in 2011 and 2013 by Jazz Journalist Association. He has a radio show in the New York area entitled, "Latin Jazz Cruise" on WBGO FM (wbgo.org). World Works Series, in it’s 8th year. She was Associate Prod. for the National Black Touring Circuit for 7 yrs. A veteran award-winning actress known for her character work. Kim has shared the stage with phenomenal artists, including: Minnie Gentry, Bill Gunn, Roxie Roker, Phyllcia Rashad, Gylan Kain, Patricia O’Connell, Anthony Chisholm, Ellen Dolan, S. Epatha Merkinson, Charles Weldon, Barbara Montgomery, Reggie Montgomery, Marjorie Johnson, Count Stovall, Bill Cobbs, Dominique Morisseau and Darnell Williams. It is a great episode that evokes wonderful memories of being in the theater in New York City in the 70's forward. And you get to know who her famous father was!
