Annoying Friend of the Week: The "Indonesian" Friend (ft. Naz Majidah)

Attention attention! We have a Very Annoying Friend of the Week! This week our dear internet friend Naz stops by for a chat! We cringe over being the awkward kid in middle school, having pride in our Indonesian culture, and Naz creating a community for Indonesian diaspora kids! We also talk about breaking generational traumas for our children and future children, and the prominence of Shaman’s in Indonesia. And the never ending cycle of Batik gentrification! But we wouldn’t be your very annoying friends if we didn’t talk about celebrities, this time around we gossip a teensy bit about Indonesian celebrities. Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram and TikTok @yourveryannoyingfriendspod and on Twitter @annoyingpod. Okay byyyyeeeeeee

    Potential Break Up Song

On this weeks episode we talk: crying in the rain, listening to Taylor Swift on repeat for a month straight, eating our weight in ice cream, how do these things correlate with one another? Heartbreak. A good old fashioned, earth shattering, blind rage activating, depression and anxiety inducing heartbreak. This week we talk breakups: romantic breakups, platonic friendship breakups, all of the above. Basically 808’s and heartbreak. Or more like +44’s and heartbreak.  Let’s discuss! This week we have fellow Indonesian American, and Nithia's bestie since birth, Nashya! Nashya gives us her Triple A Experience and we go in to workplace ignorance, #Indonesia not India, marrying outside of your culture, traditions she will pass onto her daughter, sustainability, and styling advice. Have y’all heard the phrase Cheugy? Let’s discuss! Follow us on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook @yourveryannoyingfriends. And on Twitter @annoyingpod Ok byyyeeeeeee

    The Kids Are Alright

This week with Your Very Annoying Friends. Nithia faces the wrath of a child and Tati is apparently a competitive puzzler now. We also continue our discussion on Intergenerational Cultural Dissonance. This time around we talk about our parents vision of Jakarta, Indonesia vs ours. Language barriers, class divide, and social constructs. We threw in a little bit of luxury handbags and Ben Affleck to lighten the mood. Let’s discuss. Follow us on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook @yourveryannoyingfriends. And on Twitter @annoyingpod Ok byyyeeeeee

Intergenerational Cultural Dissonance, aka Outdated Family Values

This week with Your Very Annoying Friends. Tati struggles with saying no to diet culture. Nithia goes on a date with a hot DILF, or so she thought. Tati and Nithia recall growing up with immigrant parents and the culture clash that ensued within the household. Mothers and grandmothers as style icons. And lastly the Oscars 2021 Best Picture goes to, Nomadland? Let’s discuss. Follow us on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook @yourveryannoyingfriends. And on Twitter @annoyingpod Ok byyyeeeeee

    Let's Talk About Sex Baby

Let’s talk about sex, baby! This week we talk our sex origin story. Tati and Nithia were raised by immigrant parents which means they definitely did not get the “birds and the bees” talk. Instead, they learned about sex through Tumblr, high school, and pirated DVD’s from Asia. Let’s talk about it! Follow us on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook @yourveryannoyingfriends. We are also on Twitter @annoyingpod  April is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month we encourage you to always support survivors and donate to supportive organizations through the link in our bio on Instagram

    Future Nostalgia

The fabled phases episode. Future Nostalgia. Take a trip with us down memory lane. Emulating Britney Spears in the iconic Baby One More Time video. Discovering rap via Missy Elliot. Not fitting in with the Indie kids. Sad girl Americana phase all thanks to Lana del Rey. Tati and Nithia have had multiple identity crises through the years due to the lack of Southeast Asian American representation in mainstream media. Let’s talk about it! Fatphobia Is Not Cute

Attack of the aunties! Your favorite brown, curvy, and confident ladies hash it out on the topic of Fatphobia. Why is everyone (specifically aunties) so obsessed with our bodies? Is it time we say goodbye to numeric sizing and the words “plus size”? Tati and Nithia think everyone should have a carefully curated Trader Joes snack rotation. Fashion or faux pas? Harry Styles in leather and a feather boa is hot but definitely not groundbreaking. Tune in for your weekly dose of your very annoying friends! The AAPI community all over the United States are still in mourning for the many losses we’ve faced this past month. We encourage you to donate and help where you can. Say My Name Say My Name

As Destiny’s Child once said, “say my name, say my name.” Name butchering is only one of the annoying things we experienced growing up as Asian American women. Tati talks having space in her married life, while single girl Nithia wonders if men have always been creepy on Tinder. We talk about fashion and the women owned businesses that we love. Lastly, our Hot Takes, the Millennial versus Gen Z discourse. In light of the horrific terrors set upon the Asian American Pacific Community as of late, we encourage you to donate and help where you can. Please donate to Red Canary Song and Asian Americans Advancing Justice. Follow us @yourveryannoyingfriends on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. And @annoyingpod on Twitter. Okay byyyeeeeee.
