EP242: Overcoming Grief and Chronic Illness with Cyndee Dhalai

Grief and chronic illness have a way of changing every part of your life. In this episode, I had the privilege of sitting down with Cyndee Dhalai to talk about what it really looks like to keep going when life doesn't go as planned. Cyndee Dhalai has worn many hats throughout her life, teacher, counselor, wife, mother, widow, patient, and writer. After spending more than 25 years in education, she now shares her own journey of grief, chronic illness, resilience, and hope to encourage others who may be walking through difficult seasons. During our conversation, we talk about what grief has taught her, how she has learned to live with chronic illness, the importance of choosing hope even in painful moments, and why our struggles don't have to define who we become. If you've ever experienced loss, faced health challenges, or simply needed a reminder that healing is possible, I think you'll find encouragement in Cyndee's story. 📖 Recommended Book: Grief Is the Price You Pay for Love: Run into the Fire; Discover Me in the Ashes https://amzn.to/4n1t8Wn 💚 Join Our Supportive Trauma Healing Community: https://HealingFromTraumaTogether.com/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/healthrivedream 📲 Connect with Karen Robinson: Website: https://HealThriveDream.com/ Website: https://htdholisticservices.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/healthrivedream_ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/healthrivedream YouTube: https://youtube.com/@traumarecoveryexpert Twitter/X: https://twitter.com/healthrivedream LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/karenrobinson2022/ Email: coachkaren@healthrivedream.com 💬 What resonated most with you from this conversation? EP239: Healing Self-Doubt and Overthinking with Betsy Holmberg

Betsy Holmberg, PhD, is an award-winning psychologist and author specializing in overthinking and negative self-talk. She writes for Psychology Today, and has been featured in radio, television, and podcasts. Her first book, Unkind Mind, comes out June 1 by New Harbinger Publications. Before settling into writing and therapy, Betsy ran the global behavioral health service line at McKinsey & Company, a premier consulting firm. She also worked at Harvard and co-authored several peer-reviewed academic journal articles on non-suicidal self-injury and suicidal thoughts. She is trained in Cognitive-Behavioral and Dialectical Behavioral therapies and has treated clients of various ages and presentations. Betsy received her doctorate, master's and B.A. in Psychology from Duke University. Does it ever feel like there’s a hypercritical, negative voice inside your head, telling you that you aren’t good enough, pretty enough, smart enough, or worthy of success or love? Negative self-talk is all too common, especially for women. This inner critic originally served an important evolutionary purpose—to ensure survival. The problem is, this voice can be difficult to “switch off,” leading to anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. So, how can you move past negative self-talk and start living with confidence? Written by a psychologist and expert in negative thinking, this book shines a light on where your hypercritical inner voice comes from—a deeply rooted survival mechanism in the brain called the default mode network (DMN). Using powerful skills drawn from neuroscience, you’ll learn how to flip the switch on your unkind mind, so you can move past self-critical thoughts, increase self-compassion, and decrease feelings of shame, guilt, regret, and inadequacy. You’ll also discover how to: Stay calm and present in social settings Stop comparing yourself to others Reconnect with your true inner voice—your kind mind Live with courage and authenticity Once you understand where your inner critic comes from, you’ll feel more empowered to tune it out, focus on your true inner voice instead, and get back to living your life with all the courage and confidence needed to thrive. This book will help guide you, step by step. Christina Braver writes steamy, contemporary romance usually set in the Pacific Northwest. Her stories are character driven and feature strong heroes with softer sides, heroines who make it happen, and the guaranteed happily-ever-after we all need. “A little bit nerdy and a little bit dirty”, her books address deeper issues such as women’s sexual health and sex positivity for all. When she isn’t writing, Christina can be found laughing too loudly with friends, sipping wine, or reading.
