    From Teacher to Medical Student with Daniel Reyes, MD

    On today's episode I am joined by one of my fellow medical school classmates, Daniel Reyes, who talks about his "non-traditional" path to medical school. We discuss his journey from teaching in California, to becoming a medical student in New Jersey. Dan also discusses tools that he believes has made his medical school experience the most impactful. We also delve into our individual experiences as students of color and give advice for maneuvering the culture of medicine as a student of color interested in entering the medical field. Dan also describes his experience of advocating for his Spanish-speaking patients in order to ensure they are receiving the highest quality of care. We also break down the four year of medical school and what can be expected of those interested in pursuing medical school.     Mental Health and Therapy are still topics that are not openly discussed within many minority communities. Today, I talk with Jalen Washington, MFT about his journey to becoming a Marriage and Family Therapist. He explains how his job as a teacher within an inner city in Maryland, led him to pursuing a career within therapy. We delve into the perks of therapy and the importance of protecting your mental health regardless of what profession you do. As the next generation of minority healthcare professionals, we need to do our part to normalize mental health and therapy within our communties.
