    संत कबीर भक्ति काल के इकलौते ऐसे कवि हैं जो जीवन भर समाज में व्याप्त कुरीतियों पर कुठाराघात करते रहे और समरसता की अलख जगाते रहे| वह कर्म प्रधान समाज की वकालत करते थे| लोक कल्याण ही उनके जीवन का मकसद था| जब उनका जन्म हुआ तब देश की राजनीतिक. सामाजिक, आर्थिक और धार्मिक स्थिति चिंताजनक थी| मुस्लिम शासकों की  मत|अंधता से जनता त्रस्त थी और  पाखंड का बोलबाला था| उन्होंने  ना केवल इसके खिलाफ आवाज उठाई बल्कि असत्य एवं अन्याय की धज्जियां भी उड़ाते रहे| इसी कारण उनकी गिनती समाज सुधारक के रूप में भी होती है|
