Using the Erotic: It's Not Just About Survival is a project working to validate the work of The Community. The Community is made of those who have some relationship to the subject position of black women. In this podcast, we will seek to manifest a world that serves us because until all black women are free, none of us are. We will discuss the effects of a tradition of anti-blackness in this country and hope for a (near) future that gives power to community, empathy, and self-love.

Welcome to the first episode of Using the Erotic, a podcast dedicated to creating an intellectual space centralized around Black Womanhood. The purpose of this episode is to set some ground rules and establish some definitions before we get into topic-based conversations. The Community includes black women (cis and trans), black nonbinary people, and black trans men. Why? The birth of the term "black woman" erased the identities of the people who this label was forced upon. People labeled as black women might not have had the ability to insist on their own identities as we can today. If given the space, they might have also identified as black trans* men or nonbinary.  ********************************************* Contact me on  Twitter - @UsingtheErotic Email - usingtheerotic@gmail.com ALWAYS feel free to request a clarification episode if any concepts are explained well enough or language feels inaccessible through one of these platforms. ********************************************* In this episode, we covered: Definitions whiteness blackness womanhood subject position black womanhood (in the context of subject position v identity) what the community represents institutions  anti-blackness black people (in the context of subject position) white people (in the context of subject position) white-passing Ground Rules: Engage the material as it is presented to you Black womanhood does not equate to identifying as a black woman; respect the identities and pronouns of all guests and myself This is not a safe space (for ignorance), it is a place of healing and liberation My labor ends with the podcast; do not expect me to do the work for you. I reserve the right to not debate on a topic. If an argument is based on harmful insights, I will not entertain it.  Expectations: The podcast holds the position that until all black women are free, no one is free. This is the starting point.  Credits to: The "Default Body" from Khadija Mbowe The Four Pillars of Womanhood - Barbara Welters The Expansion of Whiteness from Kiora Unsafe “Safe Spaces” - Maria Aranibar ********************* Hosted by aL.do (they/he)  Shoutout to you for reading the Program Notes!
