    Nikolett Pankovits

New York based Hungarian jazz vocalist Nikolett Pankovits has forged a singular body of world music with her band, melding the traditional Hungarian songs and standards of her youth with a luscious array of Latin American rhythmic styles into a cohesive and compelling group sound. Her new record 'River' produced by Juancho Herrera infuses the haunting traditional songs of Hungary with the improvisational imperative of jazz and buoyant grooves of Latin America. The album features a female octet, The River Voices that Pankovits assembled inviting some of the East Coast’s finest Hungarian singers. Elsa Nilsson

As a musician and a flutist, Elsa’s sound reflects the sense of awareness and urgency of this generation. A generation that is more aware than ever of our self destruction, after decades of habitual planetary abuse which also happens to be what propelled us into the technologically inclined world we are in today. Her music imbibes the energy of Rock N Roll, the cadence of street protest, the visceral improvisations of Jazz and the compositional language of Classical music. The resulting sound reflects the urgency of her generation - our world through her reactions, her passions, and her emotions. For more information check out Elsa's website: https://www.elsanilssonmusic.com/ After this interview, Elsa put out two more records: "For Human Beings" with South By North East with Bam Bam Rodriguez and Rodrigo Recabarren recorded right before the Covid pandemic. There are mandalas to color along while listening to the music here: https://www.elsanilssonmusic.com/south-by-north-east-for-human-beings "Dark Is Light Is" , Swedish holiday music celebrating the return of the light with her quartet.
