    This week on The Shiver Show, we have “With Folded Hands,” a classic 1950 episode of Dimension X. Discover a science-fiction story that is 76 years old and yet feels surprisingly contemporary. Written by science-fiction pioneer, Jack Williamson, and adapted for radio by John Dockill, the story poses a simple question: what happens when robots take all work away from humans?  The Mechanicals (robots) have arrived to serve humanity. They are tireless, efficient, and completely devoted to our welfare. But there may be a darker side to all that helpfulness. Instead of freeing humanity, automation has left people increasingly frustrated, constrained and strangely purposeless - and the Mechanicals have strong opinions about how humans should live. Featuring a terrific cast including Alexander Scourby as Mechanical, Peter Capell as Sledge, Philip Bourneuf as Underhill and Byrna Rayburn as Aurora, the production creates a chilling vision of a future.  So, are the Mechanicals really here to help us?     This week on The Shiver Show, Mary Labrie and Greg Flynn fly straight into danger with Conqueror's Isle, a thrilling 1949 episode from the legendary Escape series. Based on a story by prolific fantasy and science fiction author Nelson Bond, and adapted for radio by John Meston, this adventure blends survival, fantasy, and science fiction. The cast features David Ellis in the lead, supported by Bill Johnstone, Theodore Von Eltz, Sam Edwards, and Richard Benedict. Although David Ellis carries the lead, listeners will recognise the unmistakable voice of William Conrad, who delivers Escape's iconic opening invitation and later appears as Frater Dorden.  Mary and Greg discuss the episode's themes, vivid sound effects, taut pacing, and a wonderfully imaginative premise. What begins as an investigation for a strange client, gradually unfolds into something far more unsettling, as the clues point to an extraordinary threat from beyond our world. The performances by Joseph Julian and Barry Kroeger help ground the increasingly fantastic premise, delivering believable characters caught in an unbelievable situation.  Mary and Greg also explore how The Embassy reflects the anxieties of the Cold War era - espionage, infiltration, and the fear that enemies might be hiding in plain sight. His unlikely ally is June, a wisecracking dancehall girl whose quick wit and street smarts may be his only hope of clearing his name before time runs out. Based on the novel by celebrated crime writer Cornell Woolrich, Deadline at Dawn is a perfect example of noir at its finest: ordinary people caught in extraordinary circumstances, racing against both the clock and the police.
