    Majoring On The Minors... Micah

In Week 6 of our 12-part series on the Minor Prophets, we look at the rich, poetic, and challenging book of Micah. Preaching from the agricultural countryside of Moresheth-Gath, Micah uses vivid imagery, wordplay, and direct prophecy to confront a society marked by greed, systemic corruption, and the exploitation of the poor. Micah takes us directly into God's courtroom, exposing our inability to earn our way into righteousness—pointing 700 years forward to the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem, where God’s perfect justice and overwhelming mercy meet at the cross. In this sermon, we cover: The Wordsmith Prophet: How Micah uses poetic language, humor, and vivid metaphor to communicate eternal truth. Justice vs. Exploitation: Why God cares deeply about how we treat the vulnerable and the systemic corruption facing ancient Judah (and modern society). God’s Courtroom (Micah 6): Understanding why religious performance and sacrifices cannot erase human sin. The Promise of Bethlehem: How Micah 5:2 points straight to Jesus as the Good Shepherd who pays the debt we couldn't pay. Our Calling: Living out the core message of Micah 6:8 in our everyday lives. Key Scripture References: Micah 2:1–2; 3:1–3, 11 Micah 5:2, 4 Micah 6:1–8 Micah 7:18–20 "He has told each of you what is good and what it is the LORD requires of you: to act justly, to love faithfulness, and to walk humbly with your God." — Micah 6:8 Welcome to Living Hope Church! Majoring on The Minors... Amos

It’s easy to look around at the world and call out culture, but what happens when God turns the spotlight onto His own church? In week two of our Majoring in the Minors series, guest speaker [Insert Speaker Name] walks us through the Book of Amos—a powerful, urgent wake-up call to anyone tempted by spiritual comfort and routine. Amos wasn't a professional preacher; he was a shepherd and fig picker called to deliver an unwelcome truth to a nation experiencing peak economic success and high church attendance. On the outside, everything looked great, but on the inside, God’s people had abandoned true worship (vertical faith) and justice for their neighbor (horizontal faith). Through Amos’s message, we are reminded that God doesn't measure us against the crooked walls of our culture—He drops His plumb line of truth directly against our hearts. Outward religious performance means nothing if our daily lives don't reflect His love, mercy, and justice. Key Scripture References: Amos 1:1–2, 2:4–8, 3:1–8, 5:21–24, 7:7–17 (The plumb line, false religion, and the call of Amos) Matthew 22:37–40 (The First and Second Great Commandments) Luke 18:9–13 (The contrast of heart postures in prayer) Hebrews 12:1–2 (Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the ultimate Burden Bearer) Key Takeaways: True Faith is Vertical AND Horizontal: God will not accept high-energy worship on Sunday if our Monday through Saturday is built on selfish gain or ignoring the needs of others. The Weight of Yada: Intimacy with God brings responsibility. Because God knows us deeply, He holds His family to a higher standard of obedience. God’s Plumb Line: Stop comparing your life to the culture around you. God measures our lives against His unbending character and Word. Don't Cut the Mic on Conviction: When Holy Spirit conviction hits, don't play the "Amaziah" and try to silence the messenger—embrace the conviction and let God restore you. Diagnostic Questions for the Week: Vertical Check: Are you giving God your whole heart, or have you leased out rooms to comfort, status, or self-reliance? Horizontal Check: Do your everyday actions, public comments, and business relationships reflect God’s heart for justice and mercy? Calling Check: Are you waiting for a "special title" before you step up, or are you willing to let God use you right where you are? Majoring On The Minors Part 1

Majoring in the Minors: Finding Jesus in Hosea | Pastor William Francavilla Every single word of Scripture is inspired, intentional, and points directly to Jesus—including the books we most often overlook. In this kickoff to our new 12-week series, Majoring in the Minors, we dig deep into the Old Testament "Miner" Prophets to uncover the rich, unshakable truth of God's heart for His people. Starting in the book of Hosea, we look at one of the most remarkable and heart-wrenching stories in all of Scripture. God calls Hosea to marry an unfaithful woman, using his very life and family as a living illustration of God’s relentless love for a rebellious people. Through Hosea’s obedience, we get a powerful picture of Chesed—God’s steadfast, covenant-keeping, unending love. Even when we wander, turn to idols, or end up enslaved by our own choices, God does not abandon us. He pays the ultimate price to buy us back. Key Scripture References: 2 Timothy 3:14–17 (All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable) Matthew 5:18 (Not the smallest stroke of a letter will pass away) Hosea 1:1–11 & 3:1–5 (Hosea’s marriage, the tragic names, and redemption) Hosea 2:19–20 (God’s promise to betroth us in faithfulness forever) Main Takeaways: All Scripture Matters: The 12 Minor Prophets aren't "minor" in importance, only in length. Every word carries God's authority. Sin is Spiritual Adultery: Idolatry isn't just breaking a rule; it’s breaking God's heart by taking what belongs to Him and giving it to something else. The Power of Chesed: God’s love isn't based on our performance. Chesed is covenant love that stays faithful even when we are unfaithful. The Gospel in Hosea: Just as Hosea bought Gomer back from the slave block, Jesus paid the ultimate price on the cross to redeem us from our sin.
