As a person of color, and homegrown resident of my wonderful (albeit very homogenous) Upstate NY community, my vantage point on the current events of the world is informed by many things: for example, my position as a unique individual in the place where I live and work, my rural sensibilities, and my faith to name a few. We'll take a look at many things pop culture, news, politics, and arts through all of these lenses, and every episode will offer two takes-sometimes opposing, sometimes different about the same subject, sometimes a fun take vs. a serious one. Many fun guests will join me!

    The Association!

    In our first episode back after a bit of a hiatus, I talk to my friend Michelle Miller about the Spina Bifida Association of Northeastern New York. As Vice Chair of the Association, and a woman who has Spina Bifida herself, Michelle is a fount of knowledge on the subject of Spina Bifida: she speaks from a place of caring and personal experience.  Michelle introduced me to SBANENY and through her encouragement, I was able to learn more about Spina Bifida, learn more about SBANENY, and make plans to lend a hand and participate in some of the amazingly wonderful events they have going.  Please, check out their wonderful website to see what they're all about and learn about what they do!  This weekend is their virtual Walk and Roll (5/15) which is a wonderful, social, fundraising event.  Information about this and their upcoming (5/12) webinar can be found on the associations site: sbaneny.org.     This third episode is a charming one...and fun at that! Our guest for this episode is Denise Kelty, local renaissance woman and artist extraordinaire. Denise offers her own fascinating takes on life, art, and her own artistic process as we nosh on some tasty baked goodies and pair them with locally brewed artisan beers courtesy of Green Wolf Brewing Company: www.greenwolfales.com .     Mama Didn't Raise No April Fools

    Happy April! To commemorate the new month, we're putting a nice, finishing bow on March.  For Women's History Month, I thought I'd interview the one woman with whom I have the most history and the one woman who has EVERYTHING to do with my history.... my Mom! As a woman who is myself at a career crossroads currently, it was refreshing and informative to walk my Mom through the timeline of her own career.  We discussed challenges and changes in her field, and I even learned a healthy handful of things I never knew before.  Its a long conversation- which was great, as my Mom was a very reluctant and very apprehensive guest.  But as you'll hear, once she gets comfortable she relays some very wonderful and interesting anecdotes.  Also in this episode, an original composition by me (music and lyrics) as well as my takes on George Floyd's murder in light of the beginnings of Derek Chauvin's trial. Stick a pin in this, as this episode will temporarily conclude my "interviewing my immediate family for my first few podcast episodes" series; I will be venturing outside of my fam for my interview with my next guest!     It Takes Two to Take(s)2: A Conversation with Two Baskervilles

    Episode One is Done!! Mostly about feeling out and describing the format as well as working out some kinks, this episode also includes a conversation with my brother Bill regarding the feel of current life here in rural Upstate NY, as well as the unique challenges and opportunities that come with being a person of color and also a native of this area. This turns out to be an informed and positive conversation that does touch on issues and challenges but also takes a humorous upturn at the end.  Future episodes will be less invested with the setup of things and will just get right down to it, and future episodes will hopefully have a lot more polish.  But we'll consider this episode artisan podcasting.
