A lot of wit, emotional honesty and insights which will resonate with those navigating change, reflection, and new chapters later in life. We cover: How major life transitions can force us to re-evaluate identity, relationships, and personal happiness. The role of humor and honesty in navigating difficult or uncomfortable life experiences. What online dating and modern relationships can teach us about self-awareness, boundaries, expectations, and emotional growth. The difference between the life we thought we wanted and the life that actually fits us. Why self-reflection in midlife can become a powerful turning point rather than a crisis. FABULOUS AFTER FIFTY! EPISODE 189 – ULRIKA TORQUATO- Joyering!

Ulrika Torquato is as diverse in the countries she has lived in as in the careers she has pursued: medical doctor, a career as opera singer and currently  postgraduate studies in palliative care psychology. The outcome of this: Joyering: the practice of noticing joy in every day life. We are talking meaning, presence and what truly matters. BIO Born in Sweden, raised in Brazil, and now living in Switzerland, my path has been anything but linear. I first trained and worked as a medical doctor before leaving that career to pursue opera singing in Europe. Although the change felt deeply right at the time, it did not bring the sense of fulfillment I had expected. Over the years, I became increasingly interested in why so many of us continue feeling that something is missing, even when life looks good from the outside. What gradually changed my life was not another achievement or reinvention, but learning to pay attention differently — noticing the small moments of joy and meaning that were already present, but often overlooked. This led me to create Joyering®, a simple app and practice that helps people reconnect with those moments in daily life. Now, at 57, I find myself returning in a new way to medicine through postgraduate studies in palliative care psychology, integrating different parts of my life and exploring what truly matters in how we live. FABULOUS AFTER FIFTY! EPISODE 187 – Lisa Lacy – The Woman You Become After You Survive

Today we explore how hardship changes us and why we can’t return to who we were before. How she survived a full-blown psychosis in her 40s, living with a congenital blood disease and repeated near-death pulmonary embolisms, and how a January hospitalization and turning 50 led her to cancel big birthday plans, retreat alone to the mountains, grieve, and confront mortality. We discuss stopping instead of pushing through, building healthy relationships, normalizing trauma, using reflection, divided attention and grounding in breath/heartbeat, reframing negative self-talk with statements of fact, and focusing on small daily wins. BIO Lisa Lacy is a writer, trauma educator, and author of the upcoming memoir Notes From a Certified Madwoman and its companion Field Guide: The Psychology of Performance™️. After more than three decades in corporate education, healthcare consulting, performance, and storytelling, Lisa now speaks and writes about addiction, psychosis, trauma, nervous systems, identity masking, reinvention, and the hidden realities of high functioning survival in women. Drawing from lived experience, recovery, and years teaching trauma informed emotional intelligence in addiction recovery centers across Georgia, Lisa creates conversations that are psychologically informed without sounding clinical, emotionally honest, unexpectedly funny, and deeply human. FABULOUS AFTER FIFTY! EPISODE 185 – Lorie Eber – How to stay Healthy in a world designed to make us Fat & Lazy

Lori Aber, a Southern California metabolic health and midlife wellness educator and former corporate litigator, talks about staying healthy in a modern environment that encourages inactivity, oversized portions, stress, and convenience foods—challenges that intensify in midlife and menopause. Lori explains how metabolism and weight changes are often driven more by lifestyle factors like inactivity, loss of lean muscle (sarcopenia), stress, and poor sleep than by menopause alone, and emphasizes the importance of safe, intelligent strength training to preserve muscle. She debunks many myths and Lori’s practical tips will sure make a difference! BIO Lorie Eber is a metabolic health and midlife wellness educator who helps women understand how stress, sleep, hormones, and daily habits affect metabolism as we age — and what actually works to support energy, health, and weight in real life. FABULOUS AFTER FIFTY! EPISODE 184 – Sandra Wood – When being Capable becomes a Curse

In this episode of Fabulous After 50, I interview Idaho-based transformation coach and keynote speaker Sandra Wood about the hidden cost of being “the capable one” and how carrying too much can shift from something women do to who they believe they are. BIO After spending years as a devoted wife, stay-at-home mom, and the rock for everyone around her, my guest hit a breaking point—cancer at 40, divorce after 20 years, and the daunting task of rebuilding her life and career while raising two teenagers alone. But she didn’t just survive; she transformed. With nearly two decades as a coach and nonprofit leader—supporting others through their darkest moments at places like Ronald McDonald House and cancer centers—she’s seen firsthand what it means to fall apart and, more importantly, how to piece yourself back together. Now, she helps high-achieving women who’ve lost themselves in the chaos of caring for everyone else. Her work is raw, real, and rooted in her own hard-won wisdom: “If you don’t go within, you go without.” LINKS Sandra Wood’s Website https://www.instagram.com/sandrawoodcoach/?hl=en https://www.facebook.com/sandrawoodcoach If you enjoy the podcast please subscribe, review and share to spread the word. FABULOUS AFTER FIFTY! EPISODE 183 – Bernice McDonald – From “Not Enough” to “Brave Enough”

In this episode, we explore how fear and feeling “not enough” hold many women back, especially after 50. We talk about her Tiny Brave Steps method—building a bridge across a “cavern” with small, brave planks—and her ACT tool. A human talk based on experience and wisdom with valuable tips. BIO Bernice McDonald is a Life Strategist who helps people navigate the hard stuff—loss, fear, change, disappointment—and discover the courage to rebuild through her “Tiny Brave Steps” method. She believes that courage isn’t the absence of fear – it’s learning to take one small, Brave Step while still scared. Her message is simple and deeply human: “You can do hard things, even if the step you take is tiny.” As the author of the “Little Books of Courage” series (beginning with ‘Brave Enough to Be Myself’ and ‘Brave Enough to Let Go’), Bernice blends storytelling, neuroscience, and soulful reflection to help listeners recognize their strength, befriend fear, and move forward with hope. Her warmth, humour, and practical tools make her an unforgettable guest for podcasts exploring personal growth, courage, mindset, midlife transitions, spirituality, or mental resilience.
