    Business and community as a single parent with Freya Bigg

    Freya came on the podcast  because she’s a single mum local to me who runs her own business, and I see her making big strides in the world, including starting a new business networking group Angus Business Hub,  here in Angus. She is a  freelance graphic designer, and has done that her whole career but it was single parenthood that made freelance necessary after a redundancy. She’s been a single parent for nearly 3 years now after leaving the kids dad in June 2023.

    Starting with nothing has a kind of freedom with Amber Cherelle Moore

    I invited Amber Cherelle Moore on The Wild Woman Show because she’s always been someone who shines through to me as being really authentic, wise and grounded and because after going through divorce, she spent several years rebuilding life and business as a single mum while raising her children, and is now in a very different place with it all. When I asked Amber who she hoped our conversation might reach she said: The women who have perhaps feel like they've lost it all after a relationship breakdown. I know what it's like to close your businesses, be left with piles of debt, move to a whole new country and start over with 'nothing' and I know it isn't the end but an opportunity.     Flexible working and single/ solo parenthood with Anna Day

    I invited Anna Day onto the podcast because she became a solo parent to her son when he was 8 months old, fleeing domestic violence and was then faced with homelessness and caring for her son who has complex needs.  With all that going on, she decided to become a charity CEO.  12 months later she became a CEO for the first time, and later even went on to become CEO of a homeless charity. She is a Global Womens Leadership Fellow, a School for Social Entrepreneurs Fellow and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Commerce.     It's OK if it takes a decade! With Shakti Tracey and Claire Standen

    I invited Shakti Tracey to speak to me on The Wild Woman Show because she is a phenomenal woman and a single mum who has really dived in and done the work. I first met Shakti on a business course with Lisa Bean in, probably, 2019, and we’ve been connected ever since. When I asked Shakti who she would like this conversation to help, she said:Single mams who may feel they are starting from scratch financially (and emotionally) - to give them some inspiration that they can rise from the ashes so much stronger than ever before.Shakti started her journey as a single mum with no assets, no home (managed to get a housing association flat), no savings, and no work experience or job references for 10 years, and with her mental health in tatters. However once her daughter turned 5years, she had to either go out to work or get a job. She decided that since she was at her absolute rock bottom she had nothing to lose by trying to create a business she loved.     I invited Louise Elizabeth Blood to speak to me because she’s a mum of three and she was a single parent for over 10 years. She’s a confidence coach for women and knows the ups and downs of life and business and love, and loves to share wisdom, knowledge and lessons gained from her experience. When I asked her who she hoped this conversation would help most she said women/mums who have big goals & dreams & know they’re meant for success, who are passionate, determined & ambitious & want to make a difference to the world with their work.     I invited Julie Hawkins to speak to us today because she ran the Single Mum Business Network for 6 years, wrote the book ‘breaking out of benefits jail’, built a business and balanced jobs and enterprise, all while advocating for other single parents. She is now a higher rate tax payer, and gets to focus on doing what she loves.
