Innocence & Injustice - The Steve Titus Story Part 2

Innocence & Injustice - The Steve Titus Story Part 2

In Part 2 we’re diving back into the harrowing tale of Steve Titus, a man wrongfully convicted of first-degree rape in Washington State. Following his arrest, he was taken aback to realize that the entire system seemed determined to see him imprisoned despite his pleas of innocence. It flew in the face of what many who are unacquainted assume about the criminal justice system. No system can be perfect, but as an innocent man, he felt certain that of his vindication in the ultimate fight for truth and justice. Despite initially favoring acquittal, once deliberation came to a close, the jury ultimately delivered a guilty verdict.

We’ll explore the faulty identification process – how a faulty photo lineup and deeply flawed identification led to Steve's conviction. We’ll also discuss the relentless efforts by award-winning investigative journalist Paul Henderson, and new defense attorney Jeff Jones to uncover the truth. Their committed efforts would reveal significant flaws in the prosecution's case, casting doubt on the integrity of the police investigation led by Detective Ron Parker.  Discover the shocking inconsistencies in the evidence and the dubious actions of Detective Ron Parker that do far more than simply cast doubt on Titus’s guilt. Now that’s dedication!  Without which – it’s very possible that the eventual discovery of the real perpetrator, Edward Lee King, may never have materialized.

This episode unpacks some of the systemic failures of the justice system. Our discussion attempts to center the toll exacted on not only Steve Titus – but also his loved ones. The consequences, both emotional and financial, were severe and deeply troubling, as was, sadly, the eventual vindication that came too late for a man who had already lost so much. Join us we unravel the intricate details of this case, highlighting the critical role that ethical professionals working within the law enforcement and journalistic fields can play in our communities, and the justice system. Don't miss this compelling episode jam-packed with Paul Henderson’s investigative efforts and discoveries, and a cursory glance at the real perpetrator, Edward Lee King, along with his connection to similar crimes.

    Beetlejuice Goes Pacific Northwest!

    Beetlejuice Goes Pacific Northwest!

In this episode, we (sand)worm into the fascinating world of "Beetlejuice," the iconic 1988 film that turned the haunted house trope on its head. Join us as we explore the origins, behind-the-scenes trivia, and lasting impact of this darkly comedic masterpiece.

"Beetlejuice" emerged as a reverse narrative to the popular horror film "Poltergeist," where instead of a ghostly entity terrorizing a family, it's the human family causing chaos among the deceased. The movie, directed by Tim Burton and featuring Michael Keaton's memorable performance as the mischievous Betelgeuse, became a cult classic and a box office success. (Sucks Yes!)
We delve into the film's production and fun facts, including Tim Burton's initial struggles to convince the cast to embrace the quirky and bizarre nature of the story. Did you know that the title character, despite his lasting impact, has only about 14.5 minutes of screen time?

From the film's unique visual style inspired by B movie special effects, "Beetlejuice" remains a timeless blend of horror, comedy, and "dirty old man". We also discuss the proposed sequel, "Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian," which never materialized but had fans buzzing with curiosity.

Join us as we unravel the mysteries, fun facts, and enduring legacy of "Beetlejuice," a film that continues to enchant audiences across generations.

Spooky and Fun

I love listening to Cassie and Caitlyn! Not only do they have interesting creepy stories to tell, but they’re fun to listen to, and they’re as nice as they come. Keep it up ladies! I’ll admit that Halloween time is my FAVORITE time to listen. I also love it when Caitlyn gets particularly creeped out about something, her reactions are priceless.

Painful

I didn't think there could be something out there worse than the Crime Junkies podcast, I was wrong. Too much fake gasping, canned responses, giggling, and lack of content to be listenable. I'm sure they're nice people but I can't listen to this.
