    Discipline in the Christian Life and Witness

    Rev. Kent Compton continues our series in 1st Corinthians. Today we focus on the Apostle Paul's call to the Corinthian church to lead a life deeply disciplined and focused on the gospel, rather than running aimlessly. Using the culture's obsession with sports and the games of that era, we contrasts an athlete's intense training for a temporary prize with the believer's spiritual race for an eternal reward. Ultimately, we are urged to choose self-denial and to prioritize the kingdom of God over their own rights and personal desires. By carefully pondering where they take their feet and how they use their bodies, believers are challenged to run their spiritual race with endurance.

    Solomon Prays in Jesus Name

    This evening message focuses on the instructive prayer of Solomon during a decisive moment in Israel's history when the temple was completed. Kneeling before a specially built bronze platform, Solomon anchors his prayer in adoration of God's incomparable character and covenant faithfulness before addressing his people's greatest need: forgiveness for sin. He outlines numerous scenarios of human brokenness and failure, repeatedly asking God to hear from heaven and forgive whenever the people repent and turn toward the altar. Ultimately, Solomon's intercessory role and focus on sacrifice point beyond himself to the extravagant grace of the New Covenant, foreshadowing the heavenly priesthood of Jesus and the intercessory ministry of the Holy Spirit.

    A Dwelling Place for God

    This week we explore Chapters 2 to 5 of 2 Chronicles, focusing on Solomon’s construction of the temple and emphasizing that the physical building was never meant to limit or contain the infinite glory of God. We are reminded that Israel's true strength lies in God’s presence rather than political or military power, and that Solomon receives vital encouragement and resources through the providence of a foreign king. Ultimately, this passage is fulfilled in Jesus Christ, the true temple of God. Jesus is the true, ultimate tabernacle who embodies God's wisdom, brings personal holiness, and perfectly reveals God's expansive glory to humanity.

Today we look at how marriage is often messy, and what is the Biblical response when problems arise in marriage.
