    Knock, Knock

Prayer. It is something that talk about in church and most of do, to some degree, but for many of us, prayer can be intimidating and a mystery. Is there a right way to pray? And, even when we know what to do, does prayer actually work? Today we look at an expert in prayer, Jesus, and look at the model He laid out for us in His teachings to discover not only how we should pray, but how prayer actually should, and does, work.

    Get in the Game

What if having faith doesn’t mean having every question answered? What if you could acknowledge the things you don’t know while still having confidence in the things you do? Two thousand years ago, Jesus made an extraordinary prediction about what would happen after he was gone. What happened next changed the world—and we’re still part of the story today.

    Washed Away

We all have things in our past we’d change if we could. Sometimes we can laugh about them. Other things aren’t funny at all. We carry the guilt, shame, and memories with us, even years later. We can change what we do next, but we can’t change what we’ve already done. So what do we do with a past we can’t fix? Can anything really wash it away?

    No Negotiating

We’ve probably all tried bargaining with God at some point: “God, if you’ll just do this, I promise I’ll…” Behind that prayer is an assumption we rarely stop to consider—that we have something God wants and that maybe we can trade it for something we want from him. But what if that’s not how God operates at all? What if there’s nothing to negotiate?

    Mistakes Were Made

Nobody’s perfect. We all make mistakes. But what about the things we’ve done that weren’t mistakes? The things we knew better than to do—and did anyway? There’s an old religious word for that, which most of us would rather avoid. But what if that word isn’t intended to condemn us? What if acknowledging what’s really wrong is actually the first step toward making things right?

    Start...

Most of us were handed some kind of framework for faith as children. But then we grew up. Life became more complicated, our questions got bigger, and sometimes the answers we were given weren’t enough anymore. So what do you do when you’re not ready to give up on faith, but you’re not sure you can go back to what you once believed? Maybe it’s time to start again.

    Holy Who?

The Holy Spirit is not an impersonal force, mysterious power, or “it” to be controlled; He is the personal and knowable Spirit of God. Jesus promised His followers that although He would physically leave them, He would not abandon them. He would send the Holy Spirit—the Helper, Advocate, Counselor, and Spirit of Truth—to remain with them and live within those who trust in Jesus. Because the Holy Spirit has a mind, a will, and emotions, believers can develop a genuine relationship with Him. He understands our thoughts, intercedes when we do not know how to pray, directs us according to God’s will, and can be grieved by how we live. Knowing and trusting the Holy Spirit enables us to experience God’s presence, guidance, comfort, power, and love in a personal and life-changing way.

    I've Got a Feeling

Some of our worst decisions began with something that felt incredibly appealing. A relationship. An opportunity. A purchase. A desire. In the moment, it seemed right—maybe even irresistible. But why is it that the things with the strongest emotional pull can make it so difficult to see where they’re actually taking us? And how do we know when what feels like a green light should really make us stop and pay attention?
