Your Brand Is More Than a Logo: Build a Business That Lasts with Larissa Riley

You've got the logo. The colors. The website. Maybe even an entire content calendar. But do you actually have a brand? Because branding isn't just about how your business looks. It's about what people understand, remember, and connect with when they encounter it. And if you've skipped the foundational work, that beautiful brand may not be built to last. Your marketing is only as strong as what's underneath it. In this episode of the Confident & Courageous Clarity Podcast, Jateya sits down with Larissa Riley, Messaging Strategist and Brand Story Architect, to explore what it really takes to build a brand that reflects who you are, connects with the right audience, and evolves alongside your business. With 17 years of corporate marketing experience, Larissa understands the importance of building a strong strategic foundation before moving into execution. After transitioning into entrepreneurship, she discovered just how often small business owners rush to the visible pieces of branding without doing the deeper work. Through her company, Sun Scribe Creative, Larissa focuses on creating the messaging backbone that connects a brand's voice, vision, and next chapter. Jateya first met Larissa when she shared her big vision out loud during one of Jateya's workshops. Underneath the polished, corporate version was a creative disruptor with a fresh take on how things work, and how they could work better. And that's exactly the kind of perspective we're bringing to Season 7. In This Episode, We're Talking About: Branding is more than a logo. Why colors, fonts, and visuals are only one part of building a brand that resonates with your audience. The foundational work entrepreneurs skip. Why understanding your customers, their challenges, and what they genuinely need must come before the aesthetics. What happens when you build too fast. How skipping brand strategy early can lead to expensive rebuilding as your business grows. Creating a brand that evolves with you. Why sustainable brands continually pay attention to their customers, their markets, and changing needs. AI versus your authentic voice. Why AI-generated content can't replace your lived experiences, unique perspective, and personal story. Prioritizing your many passions. How to identify the strongest opportunity first, then explore ways to layer your other interests into what you're building. Making your brand strategy usable. Why Larissa pairs strategic thinking with tangible deliverables clients can put into practice. Building relationships that grow your brand. How genuine connections and the right communities can create opportunities without transactional networking. The Branding Mistake That Costs More Than You Think One of the most revealing moments in this conversation comes when Larissa shares an experience with a prospective client. The client wanted branding support. But as Larissa began explaining the depth of her process, it became clear they were expecting something closer to logos, fonts, and colors. What Larissa was offering went much deeper. Understanding the audience. Identifying what matters to them. Clarifying the business's unique value. Creating a message that connects. The client ultimately didn't move forward. But the conversation illustrates a problem Larissa sees often: business owners want the finished brand without investing in the foundation that makes it effective. And when that foundation is missing, even beautiful branding can struggle to deliver the results you want. AI Can Write Content. But Can It Tell YOUR Story? With AI tools making it easier than ever to produce websites, captions, and marketing content, standing out has become a different kind of challenge. Larissa isn't interested in competing with AI to produce more generic content faster. She's encouraging business owners to return to what makes their brands distinct. Their stories. Their experiences. Their voices. As Larissa puts it: "I will be damned if AI writes my story." Because your story isn't just background information. It's part of what gives your brand meaning and creates genuine connections with the people you're meant to serve. And even if you think your story isn't interesting enough to share, Larissa challenges that assumption. Your experiences, perspective, and the way you see the world aren't things you need to edit out to look professional. They're often the very things that make people connect with you. Not Everything Has to Be a Business For entrepreneurs with multiple interests, talents, and ideas, branding can feel especially complicated. Do you need a separate website for every venture? A different audience for every passion? A completely new brand each time you want to explore something? Not necessarily. Larissa shares why fierce prioritization matters. Start by identifying the opportunity that makes the most sense for your needs, your audience, and the current market. Then consider how your other interests can contribute to the experience you're creating. Sometimes the things that make you different are exactly what make your brand memorable. And as Larissa reminds us: "Busy is not a flex." The goal isn't to do everything at once. It's to be intentional about what deserves your attention and how the pieces can work together. Your Next Step Before investing in another logo, website redesign, or content strategy, consider: Does my brand clearly communicate who I am, who I serve, and why my work matters? And if you've been keeping your story to yourself because you think it isn't interesting enough, this is your invitation to Say It Out Loud. The right people can't connect with a story they haven't heard. You Got What You Paid For. So Why Isn't It Working?

You hired the coach. Paid for the website. Bought the course. Invested in the software. Maybe you even brought on a virtual assistant. And somehow, you're STILL the one doing all the heavy lifting. The website looks amazing, but people still don't understand what you do. The course is full of information, but nobody's signing up. Your systems are automated, but you're still the bottleneck. And the strategy you paid for? It's sitting in a folder collecting dust. Here's the frustrating part. You may have gotten exactly what you paid for. It just wasn't what you actually needed. And that's a distinction worth talking about. Welcome back to Season 7 of the Confident & Courageous Clarity Podcast! After an intentionally extended break spent being her own first client, Jateya is back with a new season centered on one powerful invitation: Say It Out Loud. She's also in the middle of her 90-Day Delulu Sprint, practicing what she preaches by saying what she wants out loud, asking for opportunities, and no longer waiting for the right people to find her. Because sometimes the reason you're not getting the results you want isn't that you lack knowledge, experience, or resources. It's that you've been investing in solutions without fully identifying the problem they need to solve. And when you're a visionary who sees in 4K, it's easy to forget that even the clearest vision has blind spots. In This Episode We're exploring why smart, successful people can make seemingly smart investments and still find themselves no closer to the outcomes they want. You'll discover: Why knowing what you want doesn't always mean knowing what you need. Your ability to see the vision doesn't automatically reveal everything required to bring it to life. The difference between solving symptoms and addressing the actual problem. Sometimes the website, course, or automation isn't the solution you need first. Why the right service provider matters, but so does the order. Even excellent work can fall short when it's disconnected from the bigger picture. Why someone else's solution may be expensive for your current season. You can purchase their tools, but you can't purchase the years of infrastructure, audience development, and experience that make those tools effective. The difference between deliverables and results. A completed website, content calendar, or business plan isn't necessarily the outcome you were trying to achieve. Why strategy without implementation leaves you carrying the weight. A strategy tells you where you're going. An implementation plan accounts for how you'll actually get there while living the life you already have. Before You Make Another Investment, Ask Yourself: What problem am I genuinely trying to solve? What problem did this solution solve for someone else? Do I actually have that problem? Can my life and business support using this solution right now? Because what's right for someone else's business, at their stage of growth, may be completely wrong for yours. The Bigger Picture This isn't about blaming service providers or avoiding investments. It's about becoming a more intentional buyer of support. It's about recognizing that you can be incredibly capable, successful, and clear about your vision while still needing another perspective to identify what you can't see. And it's about saying your FULL vision out loud, not just the next piece you're ready to purchase. Because God didn't give you the vision to build in pieces. He gave it to you to steward well, in the season you're actually in. That's also why Jateya created her Plan to W.I.N.™ methodology: because having a strategy isn't the same as having an implementation plan that accounts for your real life, responsibilities, resources, and capacity. The goal isn't to collect more completed tasks, programs, or tools. The goal is to build something that actually works, produces the results you want, and supports the life you're creating. Your Next Step Think about the last investment you made in your business or professional growth. Did you receive what you paid for? More importantly, did it solve the problem you were actually trying to solve? If those answers are different, this episode is your invitation to get clear on what you genuinely need before making your next investment. If you're ready to move in obedience, look at the FULL vision, and build a plan that works for your life, book a Clarity Call. Season 6 Episode 8: Why You’re Still Not Moving (Even Though You’re Doing Everything Right)

You’ve done everything right. So why does it still feel like you’re standing still?   In the final episode of the Expansion Season, we bring together everything uncovered over the past four episodes to answer one question: Why are you still standing still?   The answer isn’t what most high-achieving professionals expect.   It isn’t time. It isn’t discipline. It isn’t capacity.   It’s a lack of clarity about what this season requires of you.   In this conversation, we explore why you can be perfectly efficient on the wrong priorities, how inherited and undecided priorities quietly keep you stuck, and why priority management — not time management — is the foundation for meaningful progress.   As I reflected on this series, I realized something. These weren’t four separate conversations. They were four misdiagnoses I’d been correcting for years without realizing it.   Throughout the Expansion Season we discovered:   Episode 1: Something feels off. Episode 2: Knowing isn’t the problem. Episode 3: The vision isn’t too big. Episode 4: You’re solving the wrong problem.   If this is your first episode, I encourage you to begin with Episode 1. This series was designed as a journey, and each conversation builds on the one before it.   In This Episode You’ll Discover Why doing more isn’t always the answer The difference between time management and priority management The three hidden reasons progress stalls Why building in the wrong order keeps capable people stuck The one question that begins every meaningful strategy session: What deserves your attention in this season?   Mentioned in This Episode Plan to W.I.N.™ Intensive: https://jateyajones.com/plan-to-win Quarterly Strategy Sessions: https://jateyajones.com/quarterly-strategy   Connect with Jateya Website: https://jateyajones.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jateyajones LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jateyajones LinkedIn Newsletter: Pro to C.E.O.™: https://www.linkedin.com/in/protoceo   Click Here to Subscribe to the Confident & Courageous Clarity™ Podcast on your favorite platform.   If this episode challenged the way you think about progress, share it with someone who’s been doing everything right but still feels like they’re standing still.   Because sometimes the next breakthrough isn’t doing more. It’s finally building in the right order.

Season 6 Episode 7: The Two Versions of Your Vision (And Why You Keep Sharing the Smaller One)

There are two versions of your vision. The one you share in professional rooms. Polished. Safe. Legible to everyone around you. And the one you actually carry. Bigger. More specific. More yours. And almost never said out loud without editing it first. In this episode, Jateya Jones names the gap between those two versions, diagnoses why high-capacity professionals keep sharing the smaller one, and reveals the vision she spent years describing in language too small to hold it. Because the version you have been sharing was never the full answer. It was the version that fit in the room. And the room was never designed to hold what you are actually carrying. What we cover in this episode: why accomplished professionals learn to compress their vision for certain rooms, the difference between editing for clarity and editing for safety, the personal vision Jateya spent years calling something smaller, why the vision is not the problem, the container is, and the question that makes the full version impossible to keep editing. This is Episode 3 of The Expansion Season, a four-part series for high-capacity professionals who know they are capable of more but have been describing themselves in language smaller than what they are actually building. Episode 4 drops next week. Where we talk about why, even when you have found the thread and named the vision, you might still not be moving. And it is not what you think. Plan to W.I.N. Season 6 Episode 5: When the Receipts Don't Add Up

You did everything 'right'—degrees, promotions, and trophies—but something still feels off. In this first episode of the Expansion Season, Jateya Jones explores the 'achievement paradox' and identity friction that comes when your accomplishments no longer match who you've become. Learn about the difference between building by default and building by design, and discover the three types of clarity (directional, motivational, operational) that help you move into the next chapter with intention. What we cover: Why success can feel strangely unfulfilling even when everything looks good on paper The difference between building a life by default and building one by design Why more effort will not solve a lack of clarity The three types of clarity that create meaningful movement The question that helps you determine whether you have outgrown the life you built This is Episode 1 of The Expansion Season, a four-part series for high-achieving professionals who know they are capable of more but are not interested in blowing up the life they worked so hard to build. If this episode resonates, share it with someone who has all the evidence of success and is still wondering what is next.
