    Hey, Have You Heard?

    Over the past couple years as we’ve navigated division and polarization in our culture, we’ve all no doubt heard statements from people that elicit the initial reaction: “how in the world could you think that?” And if we follow our first impulse, the next step is often to immediately write that person off. But intellectual maturity and coming to the table with people who think wildly different demands that we make an effort to understand that person, where they are coming from, and how they arrived at what they believe. Along the way, this pursuit of different perspectives can also help us navigate our own blind spots and falsities! This episode at the table we reflect on recent statements we’ve heard that elicit the “how in the world could you think that?” response, and wrestle with how we see a path to that perspective.     Reactions: The Verdict, The Holiday, The Table

    June was a month that wasn't without its momentous moments. From the Derick Chauvin trial sentencing to the first national celebration of Juneteenth, there were cultural events that provoked responses all around us. In a day and age when it's easy to adopt how we feel from a steady stream of social media and the news, we wanted to step away, hit pause from the hot takes, come together and reflect - how do we actually feel about these events personally? How should we feel about these events? Is there a right way?     CRT

    Critical Race Theory (CRT) is the controversy of the day it seems among many evangelical Christians.  In this episode, we will discuss our understanding of CRT and share our thoughts on why we believe this secular theory (that is used to understand and explain the dynamics of racism in society) has become so controversial.  Remember, don’t be a single source thinker!  Take time to listen and learn from many points of view.  Scripture will always be our true north.  Scripture is infallible.  But we are all most certainly fallible.  So let’s listen and learn from one another!

    Bible & Ballot

    If the past years have taught us anything, it’s that few things divide people like politics. In this episode, we wrestle with this tension in light of our call to be a unified Church. Should Christians abstain from politics when it so easily sparks division? Should we vote when the ballot feels like a choice between two evils? Are we ultimately wrestling with a moral dilemma, or do we as Christians have a Biblical prescription for how to vote in our two party system? While the four of us hold different perspectives and were divided on past votes, we come to the table in unity to engage these questions together.

    King & Country

    For some Americans, holidays like Memorial Day and Independence Day inspire feelings of pride and patriotism. For others they are reminders of this country’s past and present racial inequities and social injustices. In this episode, we grapple with how Christians should relate to their country in light of such feelings. Should we pledge allegiance to a country at all? Or should our allegiance be reserved for Christ’s kingdom only? Is there a difference between Christian patriotism and Christian nationalism? And if so, how do you define the line between the two? We don’t all come to the table with the same experiences, and we don’t all leave having come to the same conclusion. But we are committed to coming to the table and hearing each other’s perspective with open hearts and open ears.
