Ep 207 - Good News Friday: Bombshell on AI, 80 Martyrs Becoming Saints, and More!

You are not an algorithm. You are not a data point. You are a son of God and no machine can replicate that. The Pope just put the full weight of the Church behind that statement, and this week's good news is stacked. Five stories. Five reasons to walk into your weekend fired up. On Pentecost Sunday, Pope Leo XIV released his first encyclical: Magnifica Humanitas (Magnificent Humanity). Forty-two thousand words. The Church's first major teaching document on artificial intelligence. He signed it on the 135th anniversary of Rerum Novarum. Now he is addressing the machines again. Eighty martyrs of the Spanish Civil War killed between 1936 and 1937 for no reason other than their faith, are officially on the path to beatification. They died forgiving their executioners. Meet Pedro Ballester, born in Manchester in 1996, chemical engineering student at Imperial College London, Opus Dei member, diagnosed with advanced bone cancer at 18, dead at 21, and the Diocese of Salford just formally opened his cause for canonization. Pope Leo launches a new catechesis series on Vatican II's constitution on the sacred liturgy, and invites the head of the Armenian Apostolic Church to St. Peter's Square as a sign of unity and a prayer toward full communion. 📚 References & Resources Mentioned: Thank you for your prayers and support! Fr. Dom's Homs: The Most Dangerous Thing in the World Is a Good Man Who Does Nothing

You have Christ in you. The question is, are you doing anything with that? Fr. Dominic opens this homily with something personal. At 27 years old, Fr. Dom gave his life to Christ and could not stop taking Him everywhere: to strangers, to the workplace, to every corner of his life. That is exactly what it means to be a Christian. And most men are not doing it. Fr. Dom breaks open the 6th Sunday of Easter readings and zeroes in on one of the most underappreciated figures in the entire Book of Acts, Philip. He is casting out demons, healing the paralyzed, and filling an entire city with joy. He goes to Samaria because that is exactly where the darkness was thickest. He does not wait for permission. He goes. Then Peter and John show up from Jerusalem to finish what Philip started by the laying on of hands on the newly baptized and conferring the Holy Spirit. What you are watching in this first reading is the Catholic Church being built in real time. Baptism. Confirmation. The diaconate. The episcopate. All of it right there in Acts of the Apostles. The same Church you walked into this Sunday. Here is the challenge: The most dangerous thing in the world is when good men do nothing in the face of evil. You are fully initiated. You have been baptized. You have been confirmed. You carry the same Holy Spirit that Philip carried into Samaria. The world is not waiting for a priest or a bishop to fix it. It is waiting for you. Walk out those doors and engage. 💬 3 Powerful Quotes: "The most dangerous thing in this world is when good men do nothing in the face of evil. Walk out those doors. There is a plethora of evil out there for you to engage. That is what we are called to do as Christians." "You are called to engage the world. If you do not, you will be unsatisfied. I guarantee it." "You can do things I cannot do. You can go out to the world and sanctify it with your sacraments — baptism and confirmation. The world needs you." Thank you for your prayers and support! Ep 206 - Meet The Angel Who Poked a Bishop, Consecrated His Own Shrine, and Cast Satan Out of Heaven

We open every episode with the St. Michael prayer. You know the words by heart. But do you actually know who you are talking to? James chats with Fr. Frederick Schmidt, a Norbertine priest and sacristan at St. Michael's Abbey in Southern California, to go deep on one of the most powerful and misunderstood figures in all of Scripture and Church history. Fr. Frederick and his fellow Norbertine Fr. Peregrine just released a children's book, "St. Michael the Archangel Through the Ages," and what comes out of this conversation is anything but child's play. You will hear about the bishop who delayed consecrating a shrine St. Michael told him to build...so St. Michael just did it himself, left an altar, lit candles, and pressed his footprint into the stone. You will hear about another bishop who ignored St. Michael twice, so the archangel reached down and poked a hole in his skull...a hole still visible to this day. You will hear about the nine choirs of angels, what each one actually does, and where St. Michael fits in the hierarchy. You will hear the real story behind Pope Leo XIII's vision — Satan asking God for a hundred years to destroy the Church, God saying yes — and how the St. Michael prayer was born from that moment. And you will hear about seven ancient shrines built at different times across different centuries that form a perfectly straight line from Ireland to the Holy Land. 💬 3 Powerful Quotes: "When Lucifer chose against God — chose his own private good over the good of the whole universe — St. Michael was sent to rebuke him. And that is where we get the line in the prayer: the Lord rebuke you." — Fr. Frederick Schmidt "Evoke him often. He is a powerful protector and intercessor." — Fr. Frederick Schmidt 🎯 Key Takeaway — Apply This Now: Add the St. Michael prayer to your daily routine — not just as a habit, but as an act of war. Pray the Angelus at 6 a.m., noon, and 6 p.m. and close each one with the St. Michael prayer. That is your two-punch combination. You are not fighting alone. You never were. 📚 References & Resources Mentioned: St. Michael the Archangel Through the Ages — Fr. Frederick Schmidt & Fr. Ep 205 - Good News Friday: A Priest Walks Free and Ireland Goes All In on the Rosary

This segment exists to push back on that narrative with actual news, real stories, and real evidence that the Holy Spirit is still moving. Five stories. Five reasons to walk into your weekend with your head up. A Nigerian priest is ripped from his rectory at 3 in the morning by armed gunmen. His diocese responds not with panic — but with prayer. Twelve days into a month of dedicated Marian devotions, he walks free from what his diocese called "the den of kidnappers." Twenty-one seminarians lace up their running shoes at the Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati, one of them finishing second overall at a 5:30 mile pace — running with the intention of a group of sisters making their perpetual vows. Ireland plasters 50 rosary billboards across the entire country — cities, highways, Belfast, every major county — ahead of the 41st All Ireland Rosary Rally at Knock. A Michigan parish celebrates 100 years standing, built while the KKK marched 100,000 strong through the streets outside and Knights of Columbus stood guard through the night to protect it. And a Filipino-American priest launches a 153-day global rosary campaign for the salvation of every soul Christ came to save. 🎯 Key Takeaway — Apply This Now: Pick up the rosary and commit to 153 days — from May 13th through the end of October and offer it daily for the salvation of souls. 📚 References Mentioned: Vatican news regarding kidnapped priestEWTN regarding seminarians marathonCatholic World Report regarding Ireland Rosary RallyEWTN regarding Jackson, MI Church anniversaryEWTN regarding 153-day rosary challenge 📌 Show Notes: Thank you for your prayers and support! Fr. Dom's Homs: Do Not Let Your Hearts Be Troubled: The Resurrection Is Not Behind You, It's Ahead

Most men carry the weight of the world on their shoulders: their job, the family, the bills, the failures...it piles up. And somewhere in the middle of all of it, peace feels like a luxury you cannot afford. Fr. Dom breaks open the readings from the 5th Sunday of Easter and delivers something every Catholic man needs to hear heading into Pentecost. It starts with the very first line of the Gospel and it does not let up from there. Fr. Dom connects the resurrection to the way you build your life, lead your family, and show up every single day. Drawing from his own background in construction and custom home framing, he unpacks what it actually means to be a living stone and what happens when a man puts himself at the center of the blueprint instead of Christ. 💬 3 Powerful Quotes: "A house built on solid rock — built on Christ and nothing else — will withstand any storm. A house built on sand, meaning you put yourself at the center and not God, when the winds come, because they will, the house will collapse." — Fr. Dominic "We celebrate the resurrection outwardly, but inwardly we sometimes remain in our dark tombs." — Fr. Dominic (quoting a Ukrainian Catholic priest) "The resurrection is not behind us. It is always before us — our new horizon. Every day is now an invitation to live as resurrected people." — Fr. Dominic 🎯 Key Takeaway — Apply This Now: Start your morning tomorrow with one deliberate act that reminds you the resurrection is real. A morning offering, a single decade of the rosary, or simply saying out loud: Christ is risen. Do not let the day pull you back into the tomb before it even begins. 📌 Show Notes: Thank you for your prayers and support! Ep 204 - You Are Frozen on the Stairwell and It's Time to Move: The Basics of Spiritual Warfare

There is a scene in Saving Private Ryan that most men would rather forget. Corporal Upham is crouched at the bottom of a stairwell. He can hear his brother dying above him. He has a weapon. He has ammunition. He has everything he needs. And he does nothing. That scene is not just a war film moment. It is a mirror. This episode is a live talk James gave to over 40 men at St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Grand Rapids, Michigan. James breaks down authority: what God actually gave Adam in the garden, why demons operate like lawyers in a courtroom, and what happens when a father finally exercises his God-given authority over his own son in the middle of a demonic manifestation. He covers knowing your enemy and how demons are smarter than you, more patient than you, and have been studying your weaknesses for years. He digs into order: why a man living in chaos is doing the enemy's work for him without even knowing it. And he lays out the arsenal: the weapons the Church has given you that most men are leaving on the table. 💬 3 Powerful Quotes: "A man living in disorder is a man who has left his gate wide open — and oftentimes that is where demons can easily slip in." — James Caldwell "Satan's strategy with men is almost always isolation. Get him alone, get him ashamed, get him convinced that his sin is uniquely bad and that if he told anyone else, they would disown him." — James Caldwell "When Catholic manhood loses religion, the nation is irretrievably lost." — Bishop Francis Kelly, 1917 🎯 Key Takeaway — Apply This Now: Implement one non-negotiable act of order into your day starting tomorrow. A morning offering. The Angelus at noon. Blessing your children before you leave the house. One decade of the rosary. It does not have to be elaborate — it has to be consistent. A man with ordered priorities is a man who is hard to move. Start there. 📌 Show Notes: Thank you for your prayers and support! Fr. Dom's Homs: The Good Shepherd Is Still Running After You...Stop Running From Him

Most men treat Easter like a finish line. The candles go out, the celebration ends, and life goes back to normal without any change. But the Resurrection isn't a closing chapter. It's a starting gun. And if you walked away from Easter Sunday the same man you were before, this episode is for you. Fr. Dominic breaks open the readings from the 4th Sunday of Easter (Good Shepherd Sunday) and delivers something every Catholic man needs to hear. It's a call to action rooted in the power of the Resurrection. Peter stands up before the Sanhedrin and speaks with such force that the crowd isn't just moved emotionally. They're cut to the heart. They don't ask, "What should we think?" They ask, "What should we do?" That's what the Holy Spirit produces in a man. Fr. Dominic also tackles suffering head-on. Christian suffering isn't something to avoid but something to expect and embrace. If you're living your faith out loud in the world today, the resistance will come. That's not a sign you're doing something wrong. That's a sign you're doing something right. And then there's the Good Shepherd. Fr. Dominic shares a story from his time in the Holy Land. What it reveals about us is convicting. Here's the challenge: Too many baptized, confirmed Catholic men are fully initiated and completely disengaged. You have everything you need and you're sitting on the sideline. That's not the life you were made for. The Resurrection happened for you. Stop leaving it at the church doors. 💬 3 Powerful Quotes from This Episode: "When the great Greek warrior Demosthenes spoke, his soldiers leapt up, struck their shields with their swords and said — let us march." — Fr. Dominic "One of the worst things in this world is a Christian who is not engaged. A fully initiated Christian — baptized, reconciliation, Eucharist, confirmation — and then they're not engaged with the world." — Fr. Dominic "The resurrection is not the end of something. It is the beginning of everything. Christ rises not simply to be remembered, but to be lived." — Fr. Dominic (quoting a Ukrainian Catholic priest) 🎯 Key Takeaway — Apply This Now: Pray. Not occasionally, not when things get hard — daily, intentionally, consistently. Prayer is not a religious formality. It's how you learn to recognize the voice of the Good Shepherd so that when the world gets loud and confusing, you know which voice to follow. Start today. Even ten minutes. That's where this all begins. Thank you for your prayers and support! Consider supporting the podcast on our Buy Me a Coffee page to help grow the show to reach as many men as possible!
