Cancer in Our Community

Community Outreach and Engagement at Moffitt Cancer Center

Hosted by Dr. Brandon Blue and produced by the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement, at Moffitt Cancer Center, Cancer in Our Community is a podcast that discusses Black health disparities. Why? Because while cancer is a disease that could affect any of us or our loved ones, the Black community is at greater risk. Whether that's through poor diagnosis or treatment, Black people are more likely to develop and die from many cancers. But there are those studying how to close these gaps in health care and ensure that Black patients and those close to them receive the care that they deserve.

October 21st marks the beginning of National Health Education week, and what better way to celebrate that than by speaking with the health educators and scientists who are bringing research out of the labs and into the local communities? Enter Dr. Jenny Vidrine and Allie Nguyen . Through leading Moffitt’s COE-SCORE initiative, they facilitate the development and maintenance of meaningful and mutually beneficial research partnerships between Moffitt Cancer Center faculty and local community organizations including primary care clinics, health systems, and social service organizations.
