    How Do I Overcome Suffering?

    Suffering is inevitable. No matter how hard we try or how much money we spend to try to avoid it, suffering still finds a way in. A worldly view of suffering asks the question, "How do I avoid this?", but the Bible is clear on suffering and its purpose. We can have hope in the midst of suffering when we understand why it's happening and what God is doing through it.

While we often approach temptation with a goal of elimination, a far more effective approach is to replace our sinful desire with a promise that Jesus offers. This framework is summarized with three questions. What is this thing's promise to me? Why does that promise sound so good right now? What has Christ promised that is better? Whether you are struggling with approval, pornography, or anger (or anything else), Jesus can meet you in that space to fulfill the innate need driving the desire. .     When Narcissism Faces God's Glory

    Many of us functionally live our lives as if we're in control, as if we are the director of our future--as if we're the king. But the life, and ultimate demise, of Herod in Acts chapter 12 shows us the folly in living that way. There is no room for arrogance in our lives, and the big idea here is that God will not share His glory with any arrogant human.     Two Chapters, One Story

    Why does it matter to our lives today that God made all people fellow recipients of the promise in Jesus Christ through the gospel?Shouldn’t we all have been included from the beginning? To see why this matters to our lives today we're going back into the story, to a different chapter 11 to see the Biblical and practical significance of what this means for us today. Genesis 11 tells the story of humanity attempting to reach God through its own greatness and being scattered among the nations. Acts 11 tells the story of God reaching humanity through Christ and gathering the nations into one family. Acts 11 answers a fundamental question: How does God reverse the curse of Babel?
