    S2Ep4 || Gratitude + Rites of Passage

    Happy Thanksgiving! I am recording, and writing, this for you on Thanksgiving so I hope this finds you enjoying your Thanksgiving, or Post-Thanksgiving, and time with family in some way shape or form! Today, I had many thoughts, emotions and ideas swirling in my head around gratitude and rites of passage.  The most common question asked on Thanksgiving is... What are you grateful for? It is a question that begins to open up reflection for many as we approach the holiday season.   For me, this time of the year is very reflective.  Thanksgiving goes hand in hand with my Dad's birthday.  This year, on 11/29, he would be 67 years old.  In most recent years, this time of the year would bring up a lot of emptiness, sadness, resentment, hurt or anything else "negative."  You name it and I most likely have experienced it come this time of the year. This year is different.  The resentment and hurt have leveled down A LOT.  The gratitude and appreciation have leveled up SIGNIFICANTLY.  I have done a lot of personal development work this year that has influenced this. Long story short, my dad passed away 6 years ago come this January 24th, 2023.  He was an alcoholic for 20 years at that point.  That was a formative time in my life.  I was 26 years old.  I had just moved out on my own for good.  Then, BAM, after almost a year of alienation, my Dad resurfaces and within in a week passes. I knew this was as significant moment in my life at the time and I wasn't able to make up the meaning of it entirely.  It wasn't until January of 2020, 3 years since my Dad's passing, that it really clicked for me when I was reading Matthew McConaughey's book Greenlights. There is a part in his book that he dives into his Dad's passing and he says, "Losing my father, like it is for many, was my most seminal rite of passage into manhood. No more safety net. No one above the law and government looking after me anymore. It was time for me to grow up." I remember this resonating with me.  When I was reading this book I was in the process of making the transition to starting my coaching business.  I didn't fully accept or lean into the Rite of Passage of my Dad dying and what it meant for me.  In that moment, I made more sense of it. **To provide clarity, here's how a Rite of Passage is defined: a ceremony or event marking an important stage in someone's life, especially birth, puberty, marriage, and death.** This year, 2022, is when I REALLY began to lean into it.  There are so many correlations that can be made to my Dad's life and decisions that he ultimately didn't lean into and take action on.  Decisions that I am noticing in my life this year, and presently, that I am taking action on that are going to be life changing for me and my family. Rites of passage may present uncertainty, challenge, anger, sadness and a whole host of emotions.  My encouragement to you is to lean into them.  Pull out what you can and learn from them.  Acknowledge the above and also direct your focus to what serves you in the process so you can use it to create from the opportunities it presents.   On the other side of rites of passage is a new perspective on life that will open up to newest version of you that you are called into. It's time for you to answer that call!

    S2Ep3 || You'll NEVER outgrow your self-worth...The BIGGEST lesson I learned after a few days in Austin, TX

    What's up everyone! Welcome to another episode of The Aligned Lifestyle Podcast 😎 I recently spent a few days in Austin, Texas at a Mastermind Retreat my 14-15 other coaches like myself.  We were there to spend time with our coaches and listen to experts in the industry talk to us.  Jesse Elder and Ani Manian are both coaches who support people who run businesses that are producing in the 8 figure range.  I listened to each of them in a 24 hour span and they both touched on very similar messages in slightly different ways.   The just of it?  You are limiting your own potential is so many ways and you may not be aware of it.  The biggest thing is that you'll NEVER outgrow your self-worth.  To provide more clarity on what this means... Self-worth: a sense of one's own value as a human being. Self-esteem: confidence in one's own worth, or abilities Detach your self-worth from your growth because when you attach those you're setting a ceiling. So this is my invitation to you at the end of this episode. If you find yourself working so hard.  Not showing up as the husband or father that you want to be, then you may be living out of alignment.  You may be prioritizing your career, your business over your relationship with your wife, your marriage, and over the relationship with your kids. I encourage you to slow down, take a step back and start living in alignment and prioritize your marriage and the relationship with your kids will be on the other side of that.  That's what I'm committed to doing right now.  If you enjoy this episode and want to support the podcast, I would appreciate you following or subscribing on whichever platform you consume your podcasts.  If you want to take this relationship to the next level 😂, then I would absolutely love if you left a review. What's up everybody! Welcome back to The Aligned Lifestyle Podcast.  I am excited to be recording again and launching Season 2. Chris Stanley's Journey to Fatherhood and an Aligned Lifestyle

    What's up guys! Today's guest is my friend Chris Stanley.  You may recognize Chris from a couple episodes back (Episode 11: My Journey Toward A More Aligned Lifestyle) when I sat down for a conversation with him for his podcast that he will be launching in the near future. Chris is a Husband, Father, Professional and flat out, just a good dude.  In this episode, we sit down to chat about his journey over the last 12 months or so, but really narrow in on what became his journey into fatherhood.  2021 was a year of “milestones, change, fun and pressure” for Chris as he began to work at a new company, bought a house, welcomed his daughter (Sophie) and really invested in himself as a person. Even as one of his best friends, I learned so much in this episode about Chris' experience that I wasn't aware of.  As a friend of, and coach for, Chris I appreciate the insight and perspective shared in this episode.  Chris dives into the meaning and value you gain from experiencing challenge and transition.  As well as how much he has gained from prioritizing certain areas of his life like: sleep and his health, to allow him to live a life in more alignment while improving his ability to show up for those who mean so much to him. Looking forward to more episodes with Chris in the near future. 2021 Reflection: My experience and the importance of reflecting

    I have found more and more value in reflecting over time and this year I took time to reflect on 2021 and cast my vision for 2022.  I sat down on New Year's Eve to share my reflection about my 2021 experience.  Along with sharing guidelines for you to reflect on your year because it is filled with valuable insight for YOU.   The ability to recall your experience: what you learned, what you liked, what you didn't like, how did you grow, etc, etc can provide a different perspective on your year and the the influence it actually carried.  All of that can seem daunting without some guidance so below I will attach the link that I used for this.  Check it out and spend some time with it.  You can do some of the questions and still benefit.  Remember, something > nothing. Some themes that stood out in my life experience over the last 12 months: -Setting intentions instead of goals -Being more intentional with all that I am doing -SLOWING DOWN! Doing less and improving quality -Investing in myself (education, hobbies and prioritizing where I put my energy and where I receive energy) -Importance of gaining life experience I round out this episode talking about the importance of a Growth Mindset (focusing on what you want, what you can do, etc) heading into 2022 and keeping your focus on learning by taking action!  The intention of this episode was to be a combination of reflection (on 2021) and sharing tips on preparing for the turn of the year (casting a vision for 2022), but my daughters nap schedule ruled my time frame.  I will record another episode that covers the casting a vision.  As a finish up saying, it doesn't need to happen before January 1st for it to be effective. Productivity vs. Busyness- How to get more out of your life

    Ever felt like you are constantly doing things and yet you feel more drained than accomplished?  I am sure everyone has been there before in some fashion.  It's almost like there is no room to breathe OR get yourself back to the baseline.  This would describe the difference between being PRODUCTIVE and BUSY. Productivity= Doing things with intention while being present that create more connection, meaning and energy in your life. Busyness= Doing things aimlessly and with no intention that are not ultimately moving you forward in your life. This can take place in all facets of your life like your health and your relationships (discussed in the episode), but also, in your professional life and hobbies.   It will help to have clarity on what you desire or what you want to accomplish (a goal or destination) so that you can define what success looks like.  All of which will help you to create a process (can also insert lifestyle) that will lend itself to be more productive in nature.   A couple quotes that can depict productivity vs busyness: -"What got you here may no longer serve you to get you to where you want to go next." -"New goals require different (new) habits." Continually doing the same stuff will only keep you where you are at and not moving the needle in the direction you are looking to really go.
