Grannies Adventures I

My grandma is an amazing woman. She was born and raised in a log cabin on a ranch that her dad homesteaded. Grandma graduated from high school at 16 and attended 2 years of college. She married and raised 5 children on a farm in Colorado. Later in life, she and my grandpa moved to Kansas and started over on a new farm. After my grandpa passed away in 2012 Grandma lived alone for many years, tending to her own chores and needs. Every summer my sister and I would take our four kids down and visit grandma. She would cook for us and play in the creek with us. We have so many great memories of these times. A couple of years ago grandma got sick in the winter and although her body recovered her mind did not. Over the past couple of years, we have watched her memory deteriorate. It got to the point where she couldn't live safely on the farm alone anymore. For the first time in over 50 years, granny moved to town. Grandma spent 2 years in a nursing home where she could receive the support she needed. This summer Grandma is staying at my dad's house. They have really been enjoying each others company and plan to keep living together. Although Alzheimer's is a devastating disease, it has also taught my family the power of living in the moment.
